For some it is the commemoration of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, the spiritual figure whose mission was to preach God's teachings and save the world from sin, for others it is a time of the year to celebrate with family and friends. In Venezuela, a country with a Catholic majority, this has been the case for a long time, and in recent times, thanks to globalization, other meanings have been added, such as Santa Claus, but even so, the vast majority of people tend to associate Christmas with family. Families that today are going through many problems due to the exodus that has occurred due to the great economic crisis in the country and that has been deepening more and more by the same situation, in addition to the pandemic that many of us know because it is present throughout the world.

The atmosphere that was experienced last December 24 was very calm compared to previous years, this time people maintained a posture of tranquility and calm because there was no money to spend either to buy large amounts of food for the preparation of a great Christmas dinner or gifts that is usually given among all members of the house especially to the little ones, those children who are the future of those homes and who wait with great enthusiasm for those gifts that the baby Jesus usually gives them, as well as to have within reach the fireworks for their fun and entertainment, being them those who usually acquire in large quantities for being the potential public for this kind of merchandise.

Due to all the above we must add other factors such as the situation that not all family members were present but were in other countries and for this they have had to settle for video calls, something that allows them to feel the closeness to their loved ones. In addition, we must add the problems with the gasoline supply in the stations that supply all the vehicles, and today several people have to wait in line for many hours to be able to buy it. Another factor that we must also add is the apathy that exists when approaching another person to say hello or give a hug, this is something that some feel this way while others do not, and those who have made the decision to ignore this deadly virus that roams among us only become aware of this until it manages to infect themselves or any of their loved ones.

In previous years the scenario was totally different, everyone celebrated with Christmas dinners, dances, sharing with family, neighbors and even strangers, there were displays of joy and happiness in the streets, not to mention the deafening bursts of fireworks -and even until recently balloons of desire were used, something extracted from Chinese culture.

Times gone by that seem not to be coming back, but now that there is news that the virus has new variants and it seems that the world is going into an economic recession that will affect all countries.

The only thing that allows us to stay in good spirits in spite of everything is the posture or vision with which we want to face these situations.

I bid you a Merry Christmas and in advance a prosperous year 2022. I hope you had a good time and if possible tell your anecdotes of this Christmas.

Best regards to all of you. Until next time.
