I hope Mrs Macs doesn’t go out of business. Their steak and pepper pies are amazing as are their chilli, beef, and cheese pies. Servo pies suck. They’re too flakey. I want to eat them not wear them. Although Mrs Macs can be guilty of this as well. They’re almost devoid of any filling as well. The amount of times I’ve had a servo steak pie only to find at best two chunks of steak is ridiculous. Don’t even get me started on how cold BP and Z pies are. If the roof of my mouth isn’t peeling off then they’re not the right temp. To be honest I grew up with Anderson’s pies because I grew up in Hawera. But the problem is most servos and dairies reheat them in the microwave then stick them in the pie warmer so that pastry is generally soft. My favourite pies are the Steak and Kidney pies at Merrilands Bakehouse on Mangorei Rd in New Plymouth. Big chunks of steak and just as big chunks of kidney. I will agree though, American pies suck. 😂
Actually I’ve never liked Maketu Pies either. I’ve had a few bad ones.
