Before #Christmas arrives, the #Chinese speaking community celebrates something more significant... Happy #WinterSolstice to all who are celebrating it! This in my family is a very special occasion. We call them "tang yuan" . Usually it comes as a sugary dessert; however Cantonese speaking community also likes it savoury, in hot steamy chicken broth. This version is following my North Peninsula grandma's recipe, a little Nonya-ish where the #gulaMelaka (caramelised coconut sugar) with some ginger cubes. And this time my mom felt a little better and she made these special Tang Yuan with a twist: there's pumpkin puree, sweet potato puree, dragonfruit juice were added to have that natural colouring.
