I realised that more and more people use MEMEs for insensitive dry jokes. Particularly for those who tries to sarcastically portray how "effective" vaccine is. I deleted an image in my group of a MEME written in Malay laughing at how effective vaccination is that a senior lady (petit and nicely worn tudung) stood up to take a picture at a photo booth saying "I am vaccinated!" for encouragement (I think from PWTC because I have seen @hooiyewlim shared it before, with the caption "The vaccine is so effective, it can even make a wheelchair bound person stand up!" (with laughter emoji) I choose not to show the photo because it doesn't feel appropriate. The MEME saddens me because when I was there, there are a lot of seniors who technically can stand and walk a bit, actually was unable to walk far for 1 - 1.5 hours with standing and sitting, walking from station to station in the larger vaccination convention centers (not drive through unfortunately). Having them sit in wheel chairs actually enables the able body children / grandchildren to wheel them from one station to another faster and this cut down time a lot when everyone followed the rules. Which means more effective process and things get done fasters. Yet the person chose to use that photo and turn it into a sarcastic MEME is truly saddening. #MalaysiaLosingCompassion? #AntiVax? I am not certain. I am just sad. I have been sad this week because almost every day I hear someone I know / some friend's relative / friends / colleagues parish in Covid
