A well-known American journalist says, "There is happiness in eating breakfast comfortably and slowly." According to nutritionists, eating breakfast is essential for our good health. Turkish restaurants encourage everyone to have regular breakfast, and of course with nutritious food. There is no shortage of appetites for breakfast among the people of Turkey as a whole. And there is a city in Turkey where the issue of 'breakfast' is taken a little more seriously. Speaking of the Turkish city of Van.

The Turkish city of Van, just an hour's drive from Iran, looks like an area on the border. About 1 million people live here and most of them are Kurds. In Turkey, van and breakfast are synonymous. One seems to have no importance other than the other. Van’s breakfast or ‘kahvalti’ describes their traditions, culture and cuisine. ‘Kahvalti’ is a Turkish word. Which means eating food before drinking coffee or tea in the morning. A unique breakfast like Van can also be found at various restaurants in Ankara and Istanbul. This diverse breakfast event in Turkey first became popular in 2014, when a total of 50,000 people, including van dwellers and tourists, set a world record for breakfast together.

Breakfast in Turkey;

‘Turkey Breakfast’ means it will have plenty of cheese, olives, eggs, sausage, jelly and finally a few cups of tea, especially black tea. These are just some of the goal setting shareware that you can use. Now let us know with what ingredients this ‘Kahvalti’ is made.

Kahvalti starts with some light and fresh food items. For this you will be served ‘Domats and Salatalik’ (Cucumber and Tomato Salad), ‘Zeitin’ (olive), ‘Russell’ (fruit jam) and some more fruits and vegetables

Otlu Peony;

You will also have a special dish made of cheese, 'Beaz Peonyir'. Another name for Beaz Payneer is 'Otlu Payneer'. The cheese made from the sheep's milk used in this dish tastes a lot like 'Greek feta'. However, this peony cheese is thicker and softer. In addition to serma, mint leaves, thyme, garlic shoots, wild fennel and a total of 20 different parts of such wild medicinal plants are used. This combination of cheese and medicinal plants helps to increase a person's digestive power and purify his blood by disinfecting it. It is accompanied by ‘Baal Kaymak’ which is actually a mixture of honey and cream. ‘Grilled Suzuki’ or ‘Turkish Chorizo’ also accompanies it, but pork is not used here. This locally known sirma used in Bayaz Pioneer is actually wild garlic. This herb called Sirma comes from a hilly area near the city. And the cheese van used in this dish is brought from Ozalp, a district next to the city. Other foods also in one way or another identify some of the special features of Van and its surrounding towns. There are also ‘Kaseri’ and ‘Ior’. Kaseri is a hard cheese made from sheep's milk and cottage cheese made from Iowa goat's milk. If you want to taste the delicious food made with so many types of cheese, then you have to go to its main base i.e. Van city.

Kahvalti;

It takes something like bread to eat so many types of vegetables, fruit jams and cheese. And for this there is ‘Summit’ in Kahvalti. All these breads and bagels are made using sesame seeds and various seeds. The traditional Turkish ‘pede’ bread is also included in this kahvalti. And these breads are available at much lower prices in Van and other cities in Turkey.

Grilled Suzuki;

You will find some similarities between the taste of the dish called ‘Murchuga’ and the pancakes. Its main ingredients are butter, flour and eggs. And Murchuga is served with honey and fruit jam. Although it does not look like a pancake in any part, it has a similar taste. You will also find two main egg dishes at this breakfast. Suzuk or cavurma (fried mutton or beef) and cheese are served with fried eggs in a dish. It is called ‘Sakakalu Yamarta’. Another dish is 'Menemen'. It is made by mixing eggs with tomatoes, onions, capsicum and cheese. Van breakfast restaurants often offer different offers for a meal called ‘Cavut’. This cavit is made with wheat flour. There is a lot of demand for it in Turkey.

Caracovan honey and milk cream are also used for unique flavors in the food of van restaurants. Caracas bees make this caracovan honey by collecting honey from 1,200 species of flowers within 30 centimeters of a mulberry tree. This honey tree stays in the dark for about six months. A special feature of it is that it is produced without any human intervention.

Karakovan honey;

Tea will be served in front of you at the end of the cauldron. Far be it from any kind of alcoholic beverage, not even a cup of coffee can be found with this cauldron. In case of tea, you will find black tea or any type of herbal tea.

Some poets and writers have also written literature for such an exceptional food culture in Turkey. The famous Turkish poet Gemal Sureya said in two lines of his poem, “I don't know what you think about food. But happiness and contentment have something to do with breakfast. ” According to him, this morning meal is the most important meal for him. Especially when there are people filling the table and there are thousands of opportunities to talk. Turkish restaurants offer a variety of flavors and nature dishes. In Turkey, many people go to different restaurants in groups with family members and friends, especially on holidays. And for them, it has become not only a social norm but also an extraordinary and unique way of enjoying life.

If you want to eat your meal with satisfaction, you have to go to a restaurant or a branch of the van. Because, van dwellers are the most skilled in this work. Many years of knowledge and experience in making delicious food with natural ingredients has made them familiar. Apart from vans, you will also find restaurants in the city of Istanbul that serve this type of food. For example, you can go to Olive Anatolian Restaurant, Kun Petro, Rainbow Cafe. In fact, the city of Istanbul is more known to tourists. You will have to spend only 25 lira or about 370 rupees for this breakfast in the van. Some foods may cost a little more or less.
