History:
On May 9, 2016, Bank Negara Malaysia issued a Commemorative Coin in conjunction with the 50th Yayasan Sabah Anniversary. The color silver proof and the nordic gold coin were launched by Sabah Chief Minister and Chairman of Yayasan Sabah Trustee Board, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman at Tun Raffae Auditorium, Tun Mustapha Tower, Kota Kinabalu.
At the front of the coin shows the image and surroundings of Menara Tun Mustapha, also known as the Sabah Foundation Tower. The words “Ulang Tahun Ke-50” and the years “1966-2016” denotes the 50th anniversary. The Foundation’s official name “YAYASAN SABAH” is featured on the upper circumference of the coin.
At the back of the coin is the words “BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA” as the issuing authority of the commemorative coin are featured on the upper circumference of the coin, while the face value of the coin is inscribed on the lower circumference. In between, the official logo of Yayasan Sabah is featured on the coin.
The 50th anniversary of the Sabah Yayasan's commemorative coins were sold on May 16, 2016, at Bank Negara Malaysia Museums and Art Galleries, Regional Offices of Bank Negara Malaysia in Penang, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, and Branches Bank Negara Malaysia in Kuala Terengganu.
The design of this coin is the result of the Sabah Yayasan commemorative coins design competition which was opened by BNM to the institutions of higher learning in the country. It was won by:

2nd Place: En. Amer Ikmal Hisham bin Zulkarnain, Universiti Teknologi MARA
3rd Place: En. Muhamad Farizuan bin Rosli, Universiti Teknologi MARA
