Asia in first regional recession in 60 years
For the first time in 60 years, the Asian continent has been hit by a global epidemic of coronavirus.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) said on Tuesday that the epidemic had hit developing economies in Asia.
The news came up in a BBC report.
According to the ADB, the recession has occurred in 45 countries in the Asian region. Which is the first in the last nearly six decades.
The ADB claims that the economy of the developing region will shrink by 0.8 percent this year.
ADB chief economist Yasuiuki Sawada said in a statement that economic growth in most countries in Asia and the Pacific could be difficult for the rest of this year.
As China begins to turn around economically, South Asia is most at risk. India's economy could shrink by 9 percent this year. And the Southeast Asian economy could shrink by 3.8 percent. In particular, the region's tourism-dependent economies will face a severe economic crisis.
However, if strict measures are taken to prevent the epidemic, the Asian economy will turn around in 2021.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) expects the Asian economy to grow 7.8 percent that year.
