Turning Scars into Stars Growing up, me and my sisters used to call our mother " Ate" ( older sister) simply because we kept hearing it from our Aunts and Uncles . My mom was the eldest of 8 children of our loving grandparents who raised and took care of us. We used to hearing " Ate" and " Kuya" in the family that's why we also called our mom "Ate". It lasted for years until i have some understanding that i have to call her mom.lol! I am the middle child and we are " Tres Marias" as relatives and friends fondly called us. My parents are separated long before i could start to utter words clearly, so mom had to work away from us to provide for our needs. Hurdles along the way My childhood was not all sad but growing up in a broken family was ain't easy after all. There are hurdles along the way . There was something missing and that missing puzzle eventually turned into a wound that hurt as years go by. Insecurities and low self-esteem made me hide into my cocoon for years. Life ain't easy always but as mom always told us. We can't just stop without giving life a good fight. Victory upon defeat Losing a battle at some point of our life does not makes us a loser all our whole life. It can actually teach us something that prepared us for our victory in the future. No parents to attend school meetings,no one to teach homeworks or to ride a bike. During our gradeschool years it was always my concern whose going to attend our school meetings because mom was far working and our grannies are busy . So it was often that no one was attending for our school activities that requires parents or guardians. Homeworks are done all by ourselves. Because of that we learned indepence at an early age. From school works to household chores and other things , name it we can do it with minimum supervision or even without. I learned to dream. I dreamed of the day when i would reach my goals. My goal of having my own family that is simple yet whole. I learned how to pick all the broken pieces of my younger years to build a simple yet happy me , a complete " Me" of today. As i aged i began to understand that everybody has their own ordeals and there is no such thing as problem free life. It is just a matter of how we deal with it. I began to accept things for what they are without asking so many whys. Being able to touched other peoples lives in my own little way made me into a better person as years go by. Giving and sharing even in little amount brings me joy. Understanding other people predicaments and sorrow is the fruit of my own sufferings of yesterday. I may not be able to control the pain of my yesterday but i was able to heal myself. Problems and sufferings can make us tender or tough. It can make us better or bitter. But me ... i choose to be TOUGH and BETTER. Turning my SCARS into my STARS. grey23espartinas
