Darna is the main character in a comic novel created by Mars Ravelo in 1947 for Filipino Comics.

Darna was wearing a headband with a winged figure and a black chest cap with yellow stars. He also wears a high-waisted sweater and a long cloth that hangs over his belt. Darna and Narda are the same. Darna's power came from a meteor who fell at Narda's feet when Narda played hide-and-seek. Narda feared that her friends would take away the charms so she hid the stone in her mouth. He swallowed the stone by mistake. He remembered the word written on the stone. He uttered it — DARNA! Narda became Darna.

Narda is a ten-year-old orphan. She lives with her sister Ding. They are just begging. When Narda becomes Darna, her name is reversed. His fate is reversed as well. From being poor and weak, Darna becomes strong and defenseless to the oppressed. There is an interpretation that Darna's popularity in Filipino culture reflects Filipino aspirations that women's power in Filipino society has increased.

But Darna's enemies are usually women too. For example, Valentina, whose head is full of serpents and the serpents of the earth, obeys all his commands. This may be seen as a reluctance in Filipino society to have such a powerful woman as Darna as her female protagonist.

Darna is one of the most popular superheroes in the Philippines. Unlike in other countries, mostly super heroes are manly. Filipinos also have female superheroes. Since Darna's birth, there have been 15 films about the life of the Pinay superhero.
