You know that Elon criticized Bitcoin miners in his last tweet saying that they are pretty much a problem for the environment like if he was an environmental angel or saint of some kind. He is entitle to his opinion which are just that his opinions and being rich doesn't make you right automatically. It is true miners use electricity a lot of electricity, but that's only half the message.
You see miners are just costumers of the big plants that produce the electricity and they are not in charge of producing the electricity, it will be like saying Tesla cars use too much bad electricity so now every single owner of a Tesla car must seek green energy and only buy electricity from green sources, or any other electric vehicle for that matter, that will stop people from buying electric cars in the first place because now you will also have to produce your own electricity or invest into green plants like solar and wind.
Meanwhile the electric plant gets off the hook because electric car owners will solve the problem, Bitcoin miners are just costumers of the electric plants so if you want green energy you should start by asking this electric plants to start investing in renewable ways to produce electricity. Elon knows that Americans don't have time to research his words, but once you research a little bit you will know that is all a big lie with who knows what ends.
In the so called third world countries whole countries use hydro and thermoelectric plants to produce electricity which are renewable and a green source of electricity not to mention that miners will love to get their electricity from those sources but it is not up to them to build those plants is up to the governments and private investors to do it. Just because you use electricity doesn't mean is your responsibility to also produce it from green sources.
Not to forget that electric cars use heavy metals in their batteries and it is actually a problem trying to recycle those vehicles, and if you get your car too high in temperature your car may literally explode, also because the way Li-on batteries work you must be careful not to puncture your batteries, which can happen very easily in a car accident. Wouldn't a Tesla car caught on fire also be a problem for the environment too? Not to forget also that if you car is left in direct sun light your batteries could exploded, and that will be an environmental thing too.
Many countries use renewable sources for electricity because they can't afford burning fuel or gas to power their plants, now I am not defending miners either to only process around 100k to 300k transaction a day that is a waste of electricity indeed because you are not using enough transactions to justify the usage of electricity, but Bitcoin Cash doesn't have that problem because it can process many transactions with the same electricity used by Bitcoin BTC miners, if BTC miners where to switch to BCH, and the Bitcoin network recognize as useless, and you move all transactions into BCH you will know that you are using your electricity more efficiently because you are covering more people.
But it is not the responsibility of the miners to produce their own energy they are just costumers of the power plants is the power plants who are to produce electricity from green sources. Same as my house I just buy my electricity from my electric utility company it is their job to produce energy not mine. And if the whole society wants green energy than governments should invest in it, and I don't need to change my behavior to please some environment warrior, I am just a consumer. Want me using solar? Well make them dirt cheap like so cheap that I can refuse them.
I do think that the environment thing is just another attack on crypto currencies as a whole, and it wouldn't surprise me if the elites are thinking to ban peer to peer currency this way saying that Bitcoin and all the crypto market as a whole is an environment catastrophe and that you should all use either the next coin that a corporation gets out or a government digital coin, which we all know it will mean slavery for all of us. I think the elites are looking for excuses at this point to prevent digital decentralized currencies from taking over fiat currencies. And I do believe that sooner or later we will hear of either a corporation coin, a government coin or even a central bank coin, the so called Fed Coin.
