Neelakurinji (Strobilanthes Kunthiana) has blossomed generally in the Kallippara slopes known as Specialist Levels (Mett) which is one-and-a-half kilometers from Kallippara in Santhanpara gram panchayat of Kerala's Idukki locale on the Munnar-Kumali Public Thruway. Many sightseers are rushing to the Kallippara Slopes in Idukki to observe the blooming Neelakurinji blossoms that have transformed the green patches into a purple heaven. Strobilanthes kunthiana or the Neelakurinji blossoms once in 12 years. They are purplish-blue and blossom like 1,000,000 stars on the slants of the shola woods of the Western Ghats. The peculiarity is classified "gregarious blooming" in plant terms. There have been times while the blooming has gone unusually haywire.
