Monday
“Panapanahon ng pagkakataon. Maibabalik ba ang kahapon..”
In a lustrous reflection under a golden ball of fire where the brilliant light is coming, my cousins and I were singing, swaying our heads like we were in paradise. We were sitting on huge tires in an empty lot.
It was an unexpected road trip, we didn't leave that far, we were just in a barangay nearby our neighborhood, the barangay where some of our childhood memories were left.
As we were sitting on the tires, taking photographs of the lovely view in front of us, I saw children, about 8-10 years old running and chasing each other, happily sharing their laughter without minding their sweat and ragged clothes.
Oh, how I thought back to my childhood!
My cousin Jake and Allan suddenly uttered,
“We were just like them when we were younger.”
I smiled. And the reminiscing starts to roll.
As we were busy chattering about our younger pasts, we then recognized the empty lot where we were currently hanging out. It was once a rice field during our childhood days, and it's where most of the boys do the combat fight.
Even I as a kid experienced fighting other kids because every time my cousin finds an enemy, she always let me join her squad. Lol! Fighting is not my thing until today but because I wanted to support and protect my cousin, I have no choice but to defend her at all costs.
But those fights were just for the kids, usual kiddie fights no actions merely words. 🤣
We recalled how we used to stay the whole day out in the sun, without worrying our parents because we were just playing outside. We were just there, having fun full of perspiration and smelling odd.
We are the 90’s kids.
While telling our stories, we recognized and couldn't agree more that our childhood was the best than the generation currently.
We were purely innocent at those times, where we were not interested in watching television the whole day unless it's showing our favorite animes or cartoons.
We were excited about the weekends so we could wake up late and play all day but missed the weekdays because we're missing our friends and classmates at school.
We happily plucked different fruits from different trees and share our picked fruits with one another. It's how we show kindness in our simplest ways.
We even scooped fish from the fish ponds and made them as pets, even we might get muddy or dirty we don't mind the stinky smell just to enjoy ourselves from the fish we caught.
Oh, those good old days, all we could do is remember it.
Then as we look at the present where we were in, we realized that we saw lovely sunsets more than what's in front of us for how many times during our youthful years, but because our priorities were a lot different than before we failed to appreciate them all.
Then, we suddenly thought of our awaited sight after the rain during our younger years, the rainbow.
And we started to wonder, these days why it's so hard to catch a glimpse of a rainbow?
Why it's very rare to see such a phenomenon these days?
Questions keep on coming from us and then we just assumed that probably it could be due to the more polluted planet we have now. Even the rice fields were slowly turning into infrastructures, nature is ruined slowly by human doings too.
But then, it's always part of the change, however, if only we could avoid harming nature, then we could perhaps do that too.
This Monday just gave me another nostalgic feeling once again, I know we couldn't turn back the time, we can not let our kids enjoy what we enjoyed before. Our childhood time has expired, and what we have now is their time.
And as we slowly remember each fun moment, the light and the darkness were battling too. The wind was getting colder and colder so we decided to head back home. As we were driving home, we couldn't erase the smiles on our faces.
And we're planning to visit there more often to see the sunset again. It's also beneficial to have a quick escape from the stressors in the residence. It's indeed nice to have a quick break from all the busy works at home. So today, I know I had a wonderful Monday, though it didn't start as nice still, to my surprise it ended so magically incredible. 🙂
