Today is the 9th day of the Chinese Lunar New Year. Celebrated for 15 days in total, there are days that are more significant than others, and they are: 1st, 2nd, 7th, 9th and 15th days. Today is the birthday of the Supreme August Jade Emperor. Locally, we just call it "pai tin kung", which means pray to the Supreme August Jade Emperor or just "pray to the Jade Emperor". Among the many offerings by devotees would be pineapples and sugar cane. To keep to this theme, you can see "pineapple" joss-sticks.
