My smartBCH Adventure: I Caught the Ride

[#184] Date: 29th November, 2021

Have you ever tried to onboard someone to the cryptocurrency sphere, and ended up being treated as though you were a scammer? Have you been told that crypto is all about money laundering and this virtual money is not real?

Well, I have... and I have been on both sides of the divide. You see, it was back in 2016 when my friend made me sign up as his affiliate or referee to tens of faucet sites to tap for satoshis, with various time intervals. There were so many zeroes after the decimal point, with a total of eight digits that I lost interest. I saw no value in them, much to my regret now. Honestly, I thought that it was quite sad if I had to stick in front of the computer, with thirty, forty tabs opened, tapping faucets, of whatever currency that I didn't even know, mostly with no value (at the time). Meanwhile, I was traveling all over the country living my life, with a dream job that allowed me to enjoy the luxuries of travel for free.

me having fun in Vietnam

Each time I came home after a trip, I would be so tired and overwhelmed with paperwork that I didn't feel like having my computer slowed down with those thirty, forty tabs. And so, that was how I missed the Bitcoin Boat.

Fast forward to 2021, I would say that the launch of smartBCH has been the most exciting event during this pandemic. Locked up at home I was reintroduced to cryptocurrencies. This time, compared to 2016, I understood their value and quite diligently tapped faucets and went into writing for crypto, as opposed to writing for fiat currencies.

read.cash friend announcing her receipt of 1 million $Cats

Even then, due to a crazy workload, I missed the announcement of the launch of smartBCH at the end of August, without an inkling of the CashCats airdrop, until someone I know announced that she was a lucky recipient of a MILLION $CATS worth 0.3 BCH.... WHOA.... I was sad... How come no one told me about the chance to win a million $CATS token? I felt left out, I felt like no one cared about me to tip me off. Oh well, I have always had to work extremely hard for everything that I own, so missing this opportunity was not something new.

Following $CATS, there was just one airdrop after another. Most were genuine, but whether they had a value or not remained to be seen at the point in time. I was usually late to the scene, though, and would only receive the second or third tier of the rewards. I was still thankful for at least catching something. Somehow, my luck being what it is, I was usually overlooked when it came to something that was available to all, and I had to make sure to fight for my share. Despite being labeled "an airdrop hunter", I had no choice as I did not have the free time or the mind to explore more of smartBCH. I would just fall asleep at the end of the day after pulling long hours at work, including overtime.

While my peers were providing liquidity pools, farming, swapping, and basically profiting and growing their smartBCH portfolio from the free airdrops, I was doing nothing to make my crypto work for me. People say that airdrop hunters do not offer value to the token and that we just suck them dry. I vehemently deny this but mehhh, I don't have the energy to fight the case. All I know is that airdrops bring attention to holders, and if we sync with it, we WILL invest. When students start earning, when homemakers have extra cash, when working adults start saving in crypto instead of in fixed deposits, we WILL invest.

And so, after some months, when my workload began to ease, I started to explore and invest. While at first airdrops allowed me the opportunity to dip my toe in the space, thus forcing me to keep an eye on the smartBCH chain, when time allowed me to explore the blockchain, I did not have to start from the bottom.

With Bitcoin, I felt that I had missed the boat. I didn't see value in the satoshis and I had zero interest to learn up all the technology and the 101 jargon. With smartBCH, I have never felt this excited about crypto before. I feel like I am growing with the blockchain, I am digesting its development as they happen. Talking to my friend, a crypto veteran about smartBCH, he felt like I was talking in Greek because he did not understand a thing, but he was surprised at how far I have come just one year of getting back into cryptocurrency. With smartBCH, the boat is moving with me onboard!

my LawPunks who work 24/7 to earn me LAW even when I sleep

There is wealth to be made on smartBCH, there is no doubt about it. Even if I am not as savvy as some of my friends, or I may not have as large a risk appetite as them, I am taking steps to invest and that's what's important. For one, I have minted LAWPunks, which are now working for me to earn a passive income. Finally, with my eyes opened to the new opportunities of NFTs, which were previously merely digital art in my opinion, I minted $FATCAT NFTs and hope to put these fatty cattos to work, work around the clock until they are "slim slim", when mining is available, according to $FATCAT's whitepaper.

my newly minted $FatCat NFTs

Ahhhhh from the way I write, you surely think that I have perused their whitepaper. Nope, not a word. Not for $FATCAT, not for any other token that I have invested in! With the amount of content that I produce in a single day, do you think I want to read more? No way! I will go with faith. And I have faith that smartBCH is the new crypto playground. Come join us to play, if you haven't yet... but of course, always DYOR! 🀣

Good luck with your pursuits. Best wishes. Yes, I tend to think that cryptos tend to be better used as investment and trading tools ... walllet / pocket some, but generally let the cryptos flow and grow in value .... however you want to do it.

Indeed, those were the days... when one tap of the faucet brought us hundreds of satoshis, but I didn't know how to value that! Regret!

I remember similar times when I'd spend many hours of the day to earn practically a few cents of crypto ... when I was doing some of the trading I remembered thinking at times "What sort of crazy person would stay up for hours and keep adjusting their bids to try to get a few pennies?! Insane!!!" .... and then I realized it was only me and a tradebot!!! LOL

At least in terms of numbers on a screen things have gotten much better since then but still ...

Well, at least we've had an adventure and there's still a possibly beautiful horizon :)

Good luck!!

Indeed, smartBCH is our new playground. Actually, one of my playgrounds. The only problem is time. It's just so many things to do with too little time. Ugghhh.

We should practically start up a club for "semi-crypto newbies". I've been involved for a few years now and sometimes I still feel like I'm still a kid riding a bike with training wheels!

... well, at least the numbers seem to keep to keep growing. How well does it pan out into something more tangible remains to be seen but good luck to you and I both.

salute

P.S. At a minimum, it's been quite a fun ride, but something I have confidence in is cryptos DI have some value and in one form or another will "be around", so there's at least one thing I feel I can hang my (non-existent) hat on.

We're going somewhere .... (exactly where, I don't know for certain, but I hope she's cute!! haha .... and I'm pretty sure she is :) ;)

In any case, have fun (or not, that's fine too!).

I've had some similar experiences talking with people, though it's been a mix. Most all of them have heard of cryptocurrencies and some are skeptics, some are already involved and a few don't have much of any familiarity with them.

On the question of value, it's actually a question that can be asked of practically anything - what's the "value" of something. In many ways cryptocurrencies (oh, I just noticed the spell checker doesn't highlight cryptocurrencies as an unknown word EITHER ... so even the spell checker knows about cryptos haha) have broader uses than dollars or ringgits etc.

It's a tradeoff, I think having competing currencies is a good idea and helps keep inflation at bay. For example, there are probably a lot of places where the local fiat currency isn't very stable and that can make it hard for an economy to operate when noone really knows what the current value of it is suppose to be.

For a lot of people, you could even ask the question of what's the value of a diamond or bar of silver etc. I'd prefer working more with things I have personal uses for and can more directly and tangibly estimate what it's value might be in comparison to other things.

Anyway, one thing that sold me (to an extent) on cryptos is that they DO have uses and so that's a form of value that's an inherent part of them. I don't know whether they're way overpriced or way underpriced ... but then again, many crypto markets seem to have good volume and have been quite stable, so I'll assume that at least as nothing major happens, market prices are probably not waaay off the mark.

Probably one of the things that worries me about cryptos and why competing currencies is a good idea, or having backup forms of wealth / savings / security is because most cryptos rely on the internet and a small number of operating systems or hardware architectures, so those are potential weaknesses.

As you said, do your own research. Good luck with your punkers too! =)

Oh, and cute picture :) Ahhh... just realized you're on a boat too! Ha

Oh yes, I do think this boat picture suits the theme of the article.

You are spot-on in your analysis of the value of crypto. The value is given by us, but soon, it will also be legal tender in most countries, rather than at selected stores.

I don't really know the mechanism or intricacies of blockchains. I guess if one day, there were to be a global internet blackout, we wouldn't be able to access our crypto anymore?

All great thoughts and questions! Love it. Thanks. Yes, that boat picture seemed to really 'hit the mark' at the moment :) Do you think we could replicate that shot? ;) =) haha

Spot on, we're determining the value of various cryptos, as well as other things in life. It's our desires (even if those be "desires" to avoid something, which I don't really consider a desire exactly, but I think you know what I mean) that drive the markets and exchanges.

Indirectly, "other" desires are, or can be included. For example, your dogter, Miss Lucky probably affects the value of dog food for you and that can affect what you desire to purchase in various ways etc.

So, I thik we can both take a bit of a mini-break here because honestly, I don't really know all the details either, but it's certain interesting to consider (an insight I just sort of had the moment, derived from other related thoughts is that probably if we truly "thought" we had it all, we'd be dead ... more or less, I don't really know though, but I've got lots of ideas and life seems to continually be a "work in progress", as they say ... which reminds me, it's likely the construction guys working on the water would probably want to apologize for the unexpected delays and it's also likely we shouldn't give them much additional stress over it)

Ok, goodnight girl and sweet dreams.
