[#414] Date: 17th July, 2022

A few days ago, I had the opportunity to watch Michael Jackson of Asia in action. this was a preview of what we can expect at his concert, a Michael Jackson tribute concert, actually, happening this September, at the Arena of Stars in Genting, Malaysia.

The cheapest tickets are going from MYR112 right up to MYR604, so we definitely expect a good show. Not that I will spend that much watching an impersonator. In fact, don't think I will even fork out that much for the real deal, despite the fact that I grew up listening to a lot of Michael Jackson and was quite a fan of his. Hahaha! I'm a cheapo like that!

Anyway, was glad that I was invited to watch this "fake Michael Jackson". Not saying that I've watched Michael Jackson perform in the flesh before, but based on the music videos in the past, this guy, Jordan Sam, did an eerily convincing performance. Of course, there are differences in the looks department, after all, these are two very different people. Even twins don't look the same.

I dug up some background of him, although there's hardly any info on the real person behind this facade. Jordan Sam is a Malaysian. In 1993, he won the contest held by Pepsi and Sony Music to search for a Michael Jackson lookalike. At the time of the competition, Michael Jackson was very much alive still, so it must have been a tall order to try to be like the King of Pop himself.

During the preview, Jordan Sam brought the house down with his medley of some of MJ's biggest all-time hits: You Are Not Alone, Black or White, Smooth Operator, Dangerous, and Billie Jean, among other tracks.

Although it was "just" a preview, the stage production was spectacular. We bore in mind that this wasn't even half of his usual stellar cast. What concert-goers can expect is a full cast of 24 professional dancers. Of course, with the concert held at a larger, more advanced venue, the quality will be a lot improved also.

In fact, so impressed the Sultan of Brunei was that he gave Jordan Sam the title, Michael Jackson of Asia. In fact, what is amazing for me is that it's been almost 30 years since Jordan Sam won the Pepsi-Sony Music Michael Jackson search, and yet, he is still keeping himself as MJ-like as possible. I wonder if he invested any money to get plastic surgery to keep the look, just like how MJ himself did.

Before watching Jordan Sam perform live, I have never heard of him, to be honest. When I came home, I searched on YouTube and found him, with only 23 subs. I am the 24th. Oh my... poor guy. I think for his talent, he deserves more subs/fans, even though he hardly updates his channel since 9 years ago. LOL

Watch this video and let me know how much of a lookalike he is compared to the real Michael Jackson. In this video, the quality is too blurry to compare his face and features, but we can check his moves. Pretty good, I must say. In fact, he intrigues me enough to do a search on him on the internet.

Does this mean that I will get a ticket to watch his full concert this September? Nah, I don't think so. Even if I had complimentary tickets, I would still have to make my way to the highlands, which is like 4+ hours away from my home city, and on winding roads, too.

Maybe he was forgotten already that is why he has low subscriber. I think there are lots of MJ impersonators in Vegas too.
