While stay-at-home orders are being lifted in some states across the U.S., they’re likely to be a part of our lives for the foreseeable future. With that in mind, it’s not just a question of finding new ways of entertaining ourselves in the short term; it’s about developing a wellness and self-care routine that will keep you and your loved ones healthy and happy for the long term. Here are some tips to create a sense of normalcy and develop mindfulness while staying at home:

Spend Time With Loved Ones

Families are searching for new ways to spend time with one another, but too often we end up sitting in the same room scrolling through our phones. To create meaningful family time, why not check out these 25 projects with papers? Create a scavenger hunt out of hand-written notes, organize a bingo game, or take a stab at mapping out your family tree.

Resurface Your Inner-Child

Remember the optimism and endless creativity we had as kids? No dream was too small, no activity too silly, and our imaginations kept us occupied. If you have down time within your day, grab some paper and doodle, or take up coloring with these creative prinrables. Doodling not only boosts your creativity, but allows you to regain the focus and calm we lose when switching between screens.

Write A Letter

When was the last time you wrote a letter? In normal life, we’re often hard-pressed to send traditional mail–but that’s changing. Across the U.S., young people are taking time to write letters to senior citizens, valued teachers and medical personnel within their communities. So think of a person in your life you want to show you care. Send a letter, or even try crafting a personal card. It may make more of an impact than you think.

Reduce Your Screen Time

Many of us are working from home, making screen time unavoidable. But constant instant messaging and emails can actually impair your ability to get things done mindfully. Productivity and Connectivity Expert Holland haiis recommends starting your day on paper. Take some time to plan out your day with a bullet journal or traditional planner. Just ten minutes of planning calls, creating a grocery list or even writing daily goals can make a noticeable difference.

Exercise Your Mind and Body

Many of us struggle with the midday slump, especially when we don’t have a commute or lunch-hour to break up the day. A simple walk around your neighborhood can refresh your mind and body, keeping you healthy and attentive. And why not take your notebook with you? Being outside provides a stress-free space to get creative.

Make Reading a Daily Habit

We challenge you to take the 15 pages a day pledges! Setting aside time for reading each day helps create dedicated time to disconnect and take care of yourself. Plus, if you have kids that you’re schooling from home, reading their favorite book out-loud provides a learning opportunity in a less formal, more relaxed setting.

Most importantly, give yourself time to rest and recharge while you are in the comfort of your home. Sometimes, the best thing we can do for ourselves is switch off.
