I'm trying to make a comparison of sorts for myself so when I get more satoshis I can treat BTC with more respect and not swap for something else. The best I've come up with in the meantime is: Bitcoin = Diamond Ethers = Gold Diamonds, in this metaphor, are exceedingly rare and precious. Gold is great, but we put the Diamond as a centerpiece of a lot of jewelry with the gold decorating it. You could also replace Diamond with Rubies or some other precious stone, but the meaning is the same: If you find yourself in possession of it, you ought to have very good reason to take it out of your vault.
