Diem is not a cryptocurrency. Diem is Facebook's answer to "how do we get back to a fiat-based, centralized system?" Facebook's Diem is CENTRALIZED, meaning it is not an open system with transparency and has safeguards built in for concealing transactions. Much like PayPal - whose checkered past and present includes "vanishing payments" and "vanishing transfers" as well as blacklists of people they don't like, ie, account lock-outs on the basis of opinion / anti free speech actions by PayPal. Facebook will be a centralized, punitive fiat-like PayPal money that is not on the blockchain in a truly transparent sense.
