Vitalik Buterin's comment seems to deflect from the core issue with ETH. Whatever his view is on ETH base fees and the way wallets and apps display the fee range, it is a failure regards fees. Period. Fees are what hold back ETH not speeds of transactions. L2's in large number would be required to sustain numerous NFT markets and games with on chain activity every single day. ETH can't handle it, not in a million years. The amount of money required for gas fees would be astronomical to sustain, say Alien Worlds on ETH. If a projection-forward on a chart doesn't make that crystal clear, I don't know what will. Maybe he expects everyone to get rich on an exponential scale along with him and Russian banks? Your first car isn't going to be your best car...in this case, ETH is a first car and it's got dents and issues. L2's are promising but still not scalability solvers. Nonetheless, they let you take the driving experience of ETH forward to where it can maximally be utilized.
