If you're considering getting tokens that are new, say a dog coin, a meme coin, etc...or want to go all-in on a new nft collection. Take a deep breath. 1) ATTITUDE CHECK. Check who they follow on Twitter (the founders, if you can spot them). Certain kinds of scammers are mouthy, braggarts and love to curse or swear (this is not only unprofessional, it shows the kind of upstanding people they are in society). 'Swimsuits' (sexual crudeness on their personal twitter), crude jokes, etc also denote a kind of character. This is not a rule, but a principle of boastful criminals who can't help themselves. So some kinds of scammers will be quieter, more intelligent but not the kind we're describing here. They want to make a fast, big lump of crypto off you so they can boast about themselves. 2) MORE THAN ONE. Fraud criminals who run coin scams usually get greedy. They start not ONE scam but two, three, or more. They have that itch. They might be in NFTs as well. You will often see their alt twitter accounts showering praise on them. In order to justify their wrong actions, they will deflect, blame others and assuage concerns with more falsehoods ("well tell you more later") so they can complete their rugpull or cash out. They are productive enough to spin a few tales, but also very lazy at times -- leading them to use shortcuts in web design, hiring the same contractors, etc. You might spot the same art, the same registration date of the domain name, the same partners (twitter, discords, etc). Or not, some may be more intelligent, but in general, they become too confident believing they have fooled the whole world -- including you. 3) EXPOSE THEIR ADDRESS. What can you do? Well, crypto doesn't require KYC. And faking a profile picture isn't that hard in an age of AI generated faces! But you can do some things. Tell about how you were scammed if you lost to a rugpull/rugcoin etc. Go to social media and post their wallet addresses. Post their withdrawals that relate to the rugpull. Like with Pixelmon, the evidence is a trail of breadcrumbs that are as guilty as murder. Once again, If you and others have been robbed by a scam coin: Let people know and now their tx's will be easily readable to everyone. The blockchain protects the community letting us all know who the bad faith individuals or groups are. We can see them now. They can't hide the money under a mattress. It's a chain! When they cash out billions or millions of their scam coins into ETH, it's on them to prove they didn't rob people. The same applies to NFT collections, altcoins, swaps, lps, etc. Let them know you're watching, too! If you have intimate understanding of blockchain technology, its tools, contribute to the community with regard to investigations. Not everyone is an expert here, including this noise account! You can do your part by taking screenshots of tx's, showing the trail of tx's and much more. It's been surprisingly empowering and amazing to see crimes solved in this manner. You get reputation but also a great feeling of helping others! 4) YOU ARE AMONG MANY. When a rugpull occurs or about to occur, lots of things might happen in some order. Gaps will appear, people will shift around in discord, twitter, emails might be sent out, web pages might vanish. Wording might change. All of the sudden, what you might have uneasily suspected is confirmed by suspicion heard throughout your little ecosystem (the nft collection/the meme coin for example). More than one person is hurting and asking "Hey this is weird." -- This is probably the point at which you realize you've been suckered and it is too late. It might be. Or you may be seeing a lie that got too big and has started to tear at the seams. Start watching the transactions. When a scammer spooks, they know they're in danger of being found out so they may start covering tracks in certain ways or coming up with excuses that are somewhat or completely implausible. But excuses are the smokescreen they will let off as long as possible so they can get away. If they start talking a lot while tx's show they're cashing out completely, using several wallets.... well, their language isn't lining up with the "great WGMI moment" they keep talkin' at the community! Call them out! Post the tx screens and demand answers you all deserve.
