July 2022 BuJo Set Up | BuJo Blog #2 July is here! We are officially halfway through 2022. How’s the first half of the year for y’all? Too fast? Too slow? It has been fairly slow for me since I have been dealing with anxiety and depression from the beginning of the year. Some days are meh, while others are bearable. In a way, Bujo helps me deal with my mental health issues when I can’t talk to a friend by giving me a creative outlet. Look back at the past month From where I am, June marks the start of the rainy season, the gateway to summer. The whole month was exceptionally humid and I did dare not go outside during the morning when the sun is high. Looking back at my goals and tasks for the month of June, some of them remain unchecked. Since quitting my job last May, I have been with my kid 24/7 and we are still adjusting to a new life with each other. I guessed what spiked my anxiety in June was my worrying about how to entertain a 2-year-old inside the house while finding myself time to focus on my side hustles. My kid would prefer to play outside but most days, it was too hot outside that it’s so painful to be out for more than an hour. I reached the end of the month of June looking back that I have not checked the things I wanna do for myself, such as *produce artwork and write more blogs.* The "silver lining" for last month was that I was able to decorate every weekly spread. It was fun trying to use all the stickers that I have and incorporate the theme “Bubbles” each week. Here are some samples of my June weekly spreads. On this month... Continuing what I planned for myself last month, I have brought into this month the unchecked goals and tasks. It’s time that I learn how to be more flexible and work under more pressure and distraction :p Last month, I have included “Merch Purchases” in my monthly spread but that wasn't working for me and I ended up buying more. Therefore a spreadsheet would work better than writing it down in the tiny space of my monthly spread. I have replaced that with “Events”, where I note birthdays (friends, family, and anime characters), merch release dates, and anime-related events. I’m also trying to get my groove back in terms of drawing so I made a goal to dedicate at least 1 hour to drawing every day. That 1 hour can be used when I work on projects or just practice drawing (anatomy, background, etc). I put this on my habit tracker in my weekly spread to keep track of my 31 hours of drawing goal for the month. So far, it’s working as I was able to work on 2 artworks since the month started. **What's in my Events section?** ***July 3rd, Nanami Kento’s birthday.*** Nanami Kento is a character from Jujutsu Kaisen. As I have previously stated in my June Bujo Blog, I am obsessed with this anime and love this character so much. In fact, he is one of the most loved characters due to him being a husband-material. I planned to make a birthday art for him on his birthday but life had other plans for me so I’ll just share a previous artwork I did of him with a shameless self-insert. https://read.cash/@crimsonowlkk/june-2022-and-more-bujo-blog-1-e11150fa ***July 7th, Tanabata.*** Tanabata, or Star Festival, is an annual celebration of the meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi in the Milky Way. It is celebrated by writing one’s wishes on a horizontal paper called “tanzaku” and then tied on a bamboo tree. It is believed that when the sky is clear on the night of July 7th, the two deities are able to meet on the Milky Way thus making the people’s wishes written in the tanzaku come true. If it rains, they are not able to meet and no wishes would come true. ***July 23~,*** ***GoUta Kami Kami Festival******.*** It is a small artist event on Twitter and Pixiv where Gojo Satoru x Iori Utahime (Jujutsu Kaisen) shippers are encouraged to draw them with the concept of “kami-kami” meaning “biting”. (The announcement is only in Japanese.) https://twitter.com/lingo121/status/1542715692511686656?s=20&t=NQWoVow-iLqjOYZ-BWVV0Q Out of the 3 events I have noted in my BuJo, the last one is the one thing I look forward to the most. Aside from being able to express my love for the GoUta ship, I am also able to draw both of them. Hopefully, I don't go into my uninspired fit and not make anything at all. *Fingers crossed.* My July BuJo Set Up **Monthly spread.** I totally forgot to make a cover as I was trying to save space. I only have a few more pages till I finish this notebook and I want my 2022 to be in one notebook. If you haven't guessed already, the theme for this month is a fusion of constellation and Tanabata or Star Festival. I also chose dark blue and yellow as the main colors and used a bunch of my star-themed washi tapes and stickers. **Week 24 and 25 Spread.** For efficiency, I tried to do a 2-week setup in one spread. I wasn't aware that this setup existed so when I searched for inspiration on Pinterest, I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoy it more this way since I save space and I can plan or note things for the incoming week. Many months into doing Bujo, I still am experimenting with the setup and spread that would work for me. It's mostly fun times and a great way to enjoy playing with stationery. I feel like I'm at that stage where I am close to knowing what works and what's effective in terms of organization and planning. To those who are using Bullet Journals, do you decorate them or go the minimalistic route? What part of your BuJo that you like the most? Let me know in the comments. That's it for now. Remember, creativity is contagious. Pass it on. Let's be nice to each other. See you at the next one. June 2022 and more | BuJo Blog #1 I have been doing bullet journals on and off since 2015 but in October 2022, I started to pick it up again. Bullet journaling gave me another creative outlet other than just drawing illustrations. Although, on the not-so-bright side, it has fueled my addiction and obsession with papers, masking tapes, stickers, stamps, and everything stationery. Even before discovering bullet journals, I have been collecting fancy papers and good pens (actually using them in a story for another day). Last year, when I started doing bullet journal again, I keep it minimalistic. Meaning, that there were no fancy drawings, no fancy colored pens, no stickers. Just a dot grid notebook, a black pen, and some highlighters. Sure, it half did the work of keeping my schedule organized and my thoughts in one place. But after several months of doing so, it became bland and I'm starting to drift away from doing bullet journaling again. My BuJo needed a little oomph to keep the spark going. So since January of this year, I make it a point to use my stationeries that have been piling up dust in the corner. I also tried to decide on a monthly theme and colors. Here is my monthly covers from January to May. As you can see, there's a lot of Jujutsu Kaisen incorporated in my monthly covers. Jujutsu Kaisen has been my obsession for the past couple of years. I don't see this obsession going down soon so you might see JJK and more anime stuff in my BuJo setup and decor. With that being said though, in June's setup, I tried to dial down on the anime stuff and focus on themes. I decided that June's theme be "Bubbles". My inspiration for this theme is this beautiful shot of Gojo Satoru from the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie. In addition to bubbles, I also decided to use teal (main), yellow, and pink as the theme colors. I chose these colors because it is the colors you see in a bubble. Monthly Spread There are usually 5-6 items that I incorporate in my monthly spread. **Goals, Tasks, Next Month, Reflection, Merch Purchases and,** if I don't forget, **Gratitude.** Goals, Tasks, and Gratitude are self-explanatory but what I include in my monthly spread that I have not seen in other people that do BuJo is the "**Next Month**" and "**Reflection**" sections. ***Next Month.*** It started as "For next week" in my weekly spreads to remind myself what I should include or note for the next week. Since there isn't much things that needs to be noted everyweek, I realize it would make more sense to make it part of the monthly spread. What I note here are birthdays that are not in my Future Log, anime merch drop dates, appointments and practically anything in the table for next month. ***Reflection.*** That's basically it. A short reflection of what happened that month. I like to keep it short because I am not really used to actual journaling. It helps me move on to the next month. Look back to the past month, drop the baggage and face the next month. It also helps me ground myself, feel human, accept it and stop myself from self-loathing and self-cringing. ***Merch Purchases.*** This is a section I decided to included starting from this month. Lately, I came out of the from being a closet otaku and embrace this side of me. For years, I have refrained from buying any anime merch and convinced myself that is cringy. So now, I allowed myself to buy merch in a considerate amount. That is why I included this to keep track of the amount I spend so I don't overspend and the delivery dates, as well. ***Japanese Calendar.*** Old Japan has a different way of calling each month and in some cases, they are still used today. For June, it is called "水無月"(Minatsuki), which means "month of no water". Minatsuki, which is actually July in the current era, is the time when rainy season had just ended and summer and drought is approaching. I like to include this in my BuJo since it adds a nice touch Weekly Spread So, you've seen the beauty that is my monthly spread. Now, allow me to showcase the mess that is my weekly spread. Mess in the sense that I'm always undecided with the setup I want to use. Sometimes, I use a horizontal setup, such as the weekly spread image above and sometimes, I like to switch it up with the vertical setup. Also, since I always almost forget to setup the weekly spread, my design is rushed and just that - a mess. However, what I make a point to include in my weekly spread, even if my design is a mess, are the **tracker**, the **mini calendar** and a **little space to write some notes in.** 9 months of continued use of my BuJo, I'm still making it work for me. Actually, it is kind of working for me, creativity wise. Also, I do some anime journals which I truly enjoy. For me, I love using the BuJo system overall. As I said in the beginning, it gave me another outlet to express myself, help keep me organized, fuel my love for stationery and generally, create a paper version of my brain. That's it for now. Remember, creativity is contagious. Pass it on. Let's be nice to each other. See you at the next one. My recent 100 yen shop hauls. First it was for product development, now it turns out to be a collection. I’m not complaining :p The more stuff for my Bujo, the better.

So I quit my job. What’s next? After thinking and thinking and thinking for months, I finally decided (with my *husbando’s* green light) to quit my job. Deciding whether to stay or leave my job for months, since the start of this year, has been of the most if not the most stressful times of my life. It is never easy to make these decisions especially when you have mouths to feed and a household to support. Heck, even without those factors, it’s just never easy. The previous months were full of spiraling deeper and deeper into depression. I was mentally fucked. It started with the local government’s request to not send children to daycare for a month (I have a 2-year-old that I send to daycare) in line with the schools closing due to the spike of Covid cases in my city. At first, I was cool with it because I can have time to draw and give more attention to the business that I wanted to start. Then, the "stay home" situation ended but when I came back to work, I realized that this work is not what I want to do for myself anymore. I wanted to grow as a person. I wanted something more fulfilling than just clocking in and out of work. However, as I stated earlier, it wasn’t easy. First, I have a very short attention span and when I am with my child, who constantly wants my attention, I get distracted and lose my will and drive to do the things that I have planned to do. Second, I get financial insecurity when I do not have a proper job. This is one factor why I have always been hesitant to go "be my own boss". Currently, we can live off comfortably (not luxuriously) with just my husbando's salary but I want to have my own money to spend on things I personally want. But alas, I woke up every day crying and dreading going to work. Just the thought of “it’s time to go to work” turned me into a crying mess. I, first, convinced myself that this was just a phase and will be over eventually. I was so wrong. I considered these past few months to be the lowest point of my life. Anxiety was growing, depression was seeping through, and I needed help. Hesitantly, I talked to my husbando about my current condition and, God bless this man's heart, he was very understanding. Sure, we had some difficulty because it was both our first time facing my mental health issues. But with constant communication and with me pushing myself to speak my mind to him, we were able to overcome what could have been a huge smear in our relationship. So now that I am free from the corporate pressures, what's the plan? While I am still uncertain of what's gonna happen from now on, here are some things that I am sure I very much want to push through. **Make art as religious as I can, as effective as I can.** It has always been my life goal, and if you read my little snippet in the end, ***to make a living out of art.*** I intend to make that come through because I believe it is what will make my life on this earth fulfilling. I have constant art blocks and it takes me a while to make a new artwork after I had just finished making one. So how do I make art as religious and as effective as I can? Effective practicing. I have watched a lot of Youtube videos on how to improve one's art and the common thing they say is "draw with intention". Yuannaoi, an NSFW artist I follow recently, was asked the same and she said "Scribbling mindlessly 100 times will not improve anything. You have to have a goal. If you want to improve on drawing hands, draw hands a hundred and a thousand times". That struck me the most and made me go back to the basics of drawing. I have a lot of points that I have learned in the videos that I watched and I intend to make an article about them so I can share them with my fellow struggling artists. **Make more articles/blogs.** You may know me as an artist but my interests are widely varied and that reflects my content inside and outside the platform. Nothing is wrong with that. We are all free to express our thoughts on any topic. However, as I make a transition towards being a freelance artist and small business owner, I want to exercise writing more core topics that are in line with what I want to do and that of my brand. Therefore, from now on, my topics will be limited to *Anime and OtaKatsu* (otaku activities), *Art blogs*, and *mini lifestyle blogs* which are not only limited to bullet journaling and creative writing. That is UNLESS there are topics or issues in the world that I strongly feel about and I just needed to voice my thoughts and put them into writing. **Small business.** I am officially a business owner but don't tell anybody yet. It's still in the works but I registered my business last February only to postpone the preparations because of my mental health issues. But I'll give you a hint. *Something sticky and paper* :p Finally, I realize that I am in a fairly privileged position to be able to just quit my job like that. I say it wasn't easy but I know there are still people who are powering through their jobs even if they don't like it. To that, I salute those people. However, I've been putting off my dreams for so long that I take this as a sign to lead an even more fulfilling life. Of course, there will be challenges in the way. It's not always rainbows and sunshine. But if I don't choose now, I don't know if I'll ever be able to choose again. One day or Day 1. You decide. I decided and this is my Day 1. That's it for now. Remember, creativity is contagious. Pass it on. Let's be nice to each other. See you at the next one.
