THE Q-FACTOR You’ve probably heard of the TV talent search show called the “X-Factor”. But have you heard of Albert-László Barabási? He’s a network scientist. This gentleman wrote an article, “What can we learn from people who succeed later in life?” (https://ideas.ted.com/what-can-we-learn-from-people-who-succeed-later-in-life/), he says that people who succeed in their later years have something called a “Q-Factor”. Barabási has come up with an equation to calculate a person’s Q-Factor and determined that if your Q-Factor is low, then you are probably pursuing or you did pursue the wrong vocation or occupation. He shared some examples of people that he says had a high Q-factor. William Shakespeare, Albert Einstein, and Thomas Edison, just to name a few. Not sure I agree with Mr. Barabási. But just in case he's right, I didn't bother to calculate my Q-Factor. I've already reached 50+. 😀 But if you are curious and you want to figure out what your Q-Factor is, go ahead and calculate it. If it turns out to be low, then … “no worries”. Just set that as your “baseline” and then figure out how to raise it higher. 😉😊 That's my advice. * * * Anyway! Julia Child (1912 – 2004) created and hosted “The French Chef”, a television show which first aired on February 11, 1963, on WGBH. It was immediately successful. It doesn't have to be anybody famous? I met a lady one time who said she got her law degree in her 50s. She went to law school after she had finished raising her kids. She had no problem getting a job a with a prestigious law firm right after she passed the bar exam, even though she was 53 years old.
