“New York, New York. The Big City.”

Who wouldn't be inspired by New York? It is an internationally acclaimed U.S. city; known for fashion, entertainment, Trump Tower, etc.; and people all around the world believe it is a place where dreams can come true!

  • “Even if it ain't all it seems, I got a pocketful of dreams. Baby I'm from New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made of. There's nothing you can't do. Now you're in New York. These streets will make you feel brand new. Big lights will inspire you. Hear it for New York, New York, New York.” ~ Alicia Keys “Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down” The Element of Freedom (2010)

NYC's myriad sites and the cacophony of sounds create a uniquely magical noise and energy. When I think of New York City, there are certain memories or images come to mind, such as: the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Times Square, Broadway, and Stevie Wonder’s song, “Living for the City” from his 1973 album, Innervisions; and sadly, the infamous date when NYC was attacked, September 11th.

You don't have to be an artist to be inspired by New York. But what if you are an artist? There is a contemporary artist that I met online via social media who combines all of my thoughts into her artwork. The Big Apple, one of NYC's nicknames, was the first US city she visited when she left her homeland. She says New York supplied her with unlimited artistic inspiration. Her name is Andrea Jones; but she is known in the art world as Adka. She is an International Contemporary Art Master who paints New York using a fanciful folk-art style she learned in her native country, Slovakia.

  • In her own words: "My New York paintings reflect the bold potential of this unique city and attempt to capture the Big Apples energy. I could paint New York City every day and never quite capture all it offers. New York, New York!"

The featured image for this post is titled “Inspire New York”. Anyone who visits NYC will always take back memories and/or photos of this statue and buildings that exemplify the work of some of the world's greatest architects. Adka presents the Statue of Liberty and it's as if the green lady is being affectionately hugged by the iconic skyscrapers that earned this city the nickname, “Concrete Jungle”.

  • Best words to describe Adka's art are: vibrant colors, playful, fanciful, loaded with energy, happy and joyful. ~ http://www.adka.com/
