COLEGIO DE SAN JUAN DE LETRAN LOCATED: Muralla St., Intramuros, Manila This school was founded in 1620 by Don Juan Geronimo Guerrero, a retired Spanish Officer, who transformed his hermitage home into an orphanage called the Colegio de Niños Huerfanos de San Juan de Letran, then later shorten its name to Colegio de San Juan de Letran and run by the Dominican Friars. Its previous main purpose was to educate and mold orphans into good Christian citizens. Letran is the oldest college in the Philippines and oldest secondary institution in Asia. During WWII, the original campus bombed and damaged in 1941 and later then restored. The school has produced Philippine presidents, revolutionary heroes, poets, legislators, members of the clergy, jurists, and it is also one of the only Philippine schools that has produced several Catholic saints who lived and studied on its campus. Some notable alumni of Letran are former President Manuel L. Quezon, Francisco Balagtas, Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, Willie Miller, Chavit Singson, Ted Failon and others.
