When it comes to tourist destinations, Bacolod seems to be underrated. While everybody rushes to book flights to Boracay, the quiet yet beautiful city of Bacolod remains as it is – quiet and beautiful, waiting for you to come and visit.

Already I can hear you asking, “But what’s so special about Bacolod?” Well, here are five special things about Bacolod that you will not have anywhere else in the Philippines and in the world.

1. Smiles.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Bacolod is called the City of Smiles. People are warmer than the weather, and they will welcome you like they would welcome the President of the Philippines visiting their home. If you want some feel good travel, you should highly consider Bacolod.

2. Chicken Inasal.

Hello? This is where all the yummy goodness started! Bacolod prides itself as the birthplace of the now famous chicken inasal. Make sure you visit Manukan Country for some authentic, and really delicious chicken made the Bacolod way.

3. Mambukal Falls.

https://www.google.com/search?q=mambukal+bacolod&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjo-piZ1qnyAhVhGKYKHQYlBlAQ2-cCegQIABAC&oq=Mam&gs_lcp=ChJtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1pbWcQARgAMgQIABBDMgQIABBDMgQIABBDMgQIABBDMgQIABBDOgcIIxDqAhAnOgQIIxAnOgQIABADOggIABCABBCxA1C0hgVYjYsFYI-XBWgCcAB4AIABoAGIAd0DkgEDMC4zmAEAoAEBsAEFwAEB&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-img&ei=6CAUYejmKOGwmAWGypiABQ&bih=764&biw=424&prmd=mivn&hl=en#imgrc=GIG0Q-URL89nHM

Instead of going to the beach, opt to go to Mambukal Falls, where you can see seven falls! The journey through all the seven falls gets better and better. The last waterfall is huge, and you can swim in the clean waters too!

4. Masskara Festival.

https://www.google.com/search?q=masskara+festival&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjGl7TC1qnyAhUIxosBHWMyBqoQ2-cCegQIABAC&oq=Mas&gs_lcp=ChJtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1pbWcQARgAMgcIABCxAxBDMgQIABBDMgQIABBDMgQIABBDMggIABCABBCxAzoHCCMQ6gIQJzoECCMQJzoECAAQA1Cm1QFYz9cBYMriAWgCcAB4AIABnAGIAcEDkgEDMC4zmAEAoAEBsAEFwAEB&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-img&ei=PyEUYYb8BYiMr7wP4-SY0Ao&bih=764&biw=424&prmd=mivn&hl=en#imgrc=aCfjwLdsMMwNRM

Happening every October, Bacolod holds this huge festival complete with a street party where people wear colorful masks and costumes, and dance to lively music. Naturally, airfare and accommodations shoot up for this event, so if you want to experience it, better book as early as you can!

5. The Ruins.

https://www.google.com/search?q=the+ruins+bacolod&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjGl7TC1qnyAhUIxosBHWMyBqoQ2-cCegQIABAC&oq=The+r&gs_lcp=ChJtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1pbWcQARgBMgQIABADMgQIABBDMgcIABCxAxBDMgQIABBDMgQIABBDOgcIIxDqAhAnOgQIIxAnOgUIABCABDoECAAQDVCXlAJYuqYCYKqyAmgEcAB4AIABqAGIAbMIkgEDMC43mAEAoAEBsAEFwAEB&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-img&ei=PyEUYYb8BYiMr7wP4-SY0Ao&bih=764&biw=424&prmd=mivn&hl=en#imgrc=wtySYqm5uYpBjM

When you see this skeleton of a stone house, you would want to have your makeup done and have a photoshoot in it! The Ruins is what remains of a rich family’s house during World War II. Owners of an abundant sugar plantation, they had their land and everything in it burned before the Japanese soldiers could take over and seize their properties. Smart move right there. And now, what remains of the family mansion stands as a tourist spot that will make you feel you’re in Europe.

You don't really have to learn Hiligaynon or Ilonggo for you to appreciate Bacolod and all its beauty. Just take your curious mind and open your heart to all the possibilities. With a laidback atmosphere, kind and warm people, and smiles wherever you go, Bacolod should definitely be on your list of places to visit. Ready to book your Cebu Pacific flight yet? Watch out for seat sales and book as soon as you see a cheap flight!
