My Eid story

My Eid story Until 1971, Eid was a public holiday in our city. Some Bihari Muslims lived inside the empty Nawab's house. I used to see them wearing hats. The Muslims of the village used to celebrate Eid in the village. We had no taluk with him. Two or four houses were Muslim, of course they used to go to the big mosque. But Eid was seen in our house in a slightly different way. The reason is of course Azimkaka. Azim Kaka was our tenant (burgadar) but Kamla used to work in our house after the floods of 68. He used to stay at Garalbari. He used to come every morning and have a cup of tea. He used to give cow dung. He used to take a cigarette from his father. Then if there was work. Otherwise he would have left in front of the mosque to get a job. He used to come in the afternoon and drink tea and raise cows. If there was a herdsman, he would order them. I would go home in the evening to buy something. If not, he would borrow from his mother and of course he would repay. There was a mentally ill wife and daughter at home. The girl was in school. Eid was actually around noon when Azimuddin used to bring white Punjabi and Bibiani meat Finni after hat. My father used to buy a lungi for his Punjabi wife and a frock for his daughter. Dad used to say that I am giving it to you or it is for the sake of your wife and daughter. He used to go home with our food. (At that time we used to talk a lot). (I will tell the story of Azim Uddin one day later) There was a Bengali shoe shop on the ground floor of our bank. We used to talk to Tara. He used to live with his family in a house on Montevit Road below. I remember he invited the two of us to eat on the day of Eid. What their sincerity.and cooking. It is unthinkable that a girl from the village of Hooghly could do so well. Later, I was in a small town in Kochbihar. I ate in such a way that Dr. Babu gave me medicine. I ate in the house of a very poor baggy artist in a small town in that district. Last year I ate Eid at my house because I am a hired Muslim. Later I opened a Facebook account and found many friends in Upper Bengal. I can understand the significance of Eid a little. Little people like me have got so much love in Upper Bengal that my mind is full. I am grateful to them. Eid Mubarak. All the best.
