Effects of Pandemic to Kids

How are your kids coping up during this pandemic? And how this pandemic affect them?

Before the pandemic, every time we go home from Manila we eat out, go to the mall, play in the arcades and travel. We want her to experience and see different places away from our home town. Places where she could meet other people, make friends and see how big this world is.

When the corona scare started and there are a lot of protocols implemented as if depriving them to explore the world we have prepared for them. As if we restrict them from appreciating the beauty around them. And that we limit their big world to a small one; same location, same people.

But after 9 months, I have observed these two (2) major impact:

1.Scared of being in the crowd.

Our neighbor once brought her child to the dental clinic near the marketplace because of her toothache. But when they get off from the tricycle, she was shocked when her daughter hide herself in her mom's shirt looking so scared of the people around. Everyone was wearing facemask and that frightened her. The worried mother immediately carried her and hurriedly went to the clinic. From then on the daughter no longer asked her mom to bring her to the market or grocer with her.

2.Afraid of policemen

Policemen roving around our area became a regular routine. They confront almost everyone who does not wear mask, confront motorbikes who have backrides, checks for the requirements, permits and all. So when my daughter's friend sees any police car, he would run, hide or get inside the house because his mindset was these policemen might capture or confront him.

Yes, this pandemic brought them fear. Although we seldom watch news this whole pandemic season but because of the limitations from the protocols, kids were already afraid to go outside because they fear of getting infected by the virus. Sometimes, I felt that this pandemic deprived them from so much.

That's when our role as parents or guardians come in. We have to make them feel safe and secured. That we should not add on that fear that they are feeling but more of giving them comfort and assurance that the whole pandemic will soon be gone. And to trust God because He loves the children and He will never ever abandon us.
