Silver Underdog Battles

0 9

Hey everyone!

Welcome to another Splinterlands post, where I’ll be sharing some interesting battles.

Currently, I’m trying to get into a zone (Silver I), for which I don’t have enough power to climb steadily and this provides interesting encounters, where I have to appeal to my most tactical side, where before, even if my strategy wasn’t that good, the strength of my Monsters alone, just made a difference, since I used to rent much more.

So, this is the theme for this post, “Underdog Battles”; those occassions where you win thanks to your own wit. Is good to share this battles, especially to new players, who may think, and I read it over and over again, that you only win battles if you can afford “that Legendary Summoner” or this other “Legendary Monster”.

Strong Monsters help a lot of course, however, learning to assemble a cohesive team is more important; that is the spirit of the game, in my opinion.

Battle #1

A battle I had no hope to win, but still tried to. In my opponent’s history I could see Alric and the Ruler of the Seas, two very worrying Magic cards, so I expected my opponent to use them, alongside with many more Magic Monsters.

The Summoner, Thaddius Brood was critical to neutralize Alric’s Magical buff, while the election of my first two Monsters was very important too. Considering all the Magic attacks, the Bone Golem, with it’s Void, was a must, but I was short on a second good choice. I ended up choosing the Xenith Monk, who I was able to level up and it’s capable of healing itself.

The Disintegrator was a completely useless Monster, but with a Melee Mayhem rule, you cannot risk not using it. The rest of the lineup was the best I could do with the Mana I had left, so there is none brilliant thought there. No, the core of my strategy were the first two Monsters and the Summoner.

Even though my opponent had higher level Monsters, with more abilities, more Speed, with the inclusion of two very strong Legendaries, I was able to win. Although I felt like a tactical genius after this battle, the truth is this enemy, player/bot?... messed a lot his lineup by not exploiting his strengths or even thinking about associating it’s Monsters. The ruleset played in my favour too.

But analyzing the opposing team… this is what I would’ve done: Oshannus as a tank, the Creeping Ooze second, taking the tank evasion even higher, the Venari third, or even better, exchange him for the Merdaali Guardian, an Starter card. Then the Medusa, then the Ruler of the Seas and, at last position, the Ice Pixie, whose high evasion is great in case of Sneak attackers.

Battle #2

What a better “Underdog Battle”, than one you win against Yodin Zaku. Since all of my cards here are level one, there isn’t much associations to be made, but at least we are able to create a general idea to follow.

In this case, as well as before, I expected Yodin Zaku, because of my opponent’s battle history, so I was able to plan, more or less, accordingly. I had to be fast, so I chose the Water Splinter Summoner, Kelya Frendul, which not only grants me an extra point of Speed but also, an extra layer of protection, making her invaluable against Blast.

In my opinion, regardless of the Opportunity rule, I had to cover three key spots: the tank, the first Ranged attacker, and the last position. Oshannus and the Serpent of Eld, thanks to their Speed, were great, for covering the tank and the last position.

Now, for the first Ranged attacker position, I picked the Ice Pixie. She was important, because I chose her specifically as a target dummy for my opponent. Because of the Opportunity rule, she was going to be attacked, but because of her high Speed and Flying ability, I expected her to dodge most of the attacks, which she did. The problem, though, is that she died, victim of a Blast, when Oshannus, with six points of Speed, got hit by the Living Lava, who has one… can you believe that?

Anyways, victory was possible thanks to a fast team, which managed to dodge enough to survive and defeat the opponent. Credits to the Venari Wavesmith for that extra layer of Armor.

Extra Battles

The following battles, were against a combination of the Scarred Llama, as a Summoner, and both, the Flesh Golem, at level three, and Kron.

In the first battle I used the Ranged strength of my Life Splinter which, alongside with a “Target Practice” rule, allowed me to have a flawless victory, against a dangerous team. I believe my opponent could’ve done a better job with his middle lineup. Battle Link

In the second battle, since there wasn’t a “Target Practice” rule, I felt that my Life Splinter power was going to be useless, so I took my chances and used a level one Water team. It was a very close victory, but a victory nonetheless. Battle Link

In conclusion guys, check your opponent’s battle history, try to predict his next move and, with whatever you have, try to counter-attack.
