Citiponics - Singapore Urban Farm

Singapore is a small country , but the government does have sense of security for its food supply.   In modern day , the agriculture no longer depends solely on the soil but technology can kick in and replace with water.

Hence, Singapore recently has pivoted run a project named Citiponics, where the agriculture activities take place right in the middle of town- Top storey of multi-storey car park building! (Note: Due to tropical weather, no car owner would want to park their car at top floor , direct under the sunlights for hours)   They recently marketed their product to the hypermarket next door, and I found it very innovative.

First by having citiponic, they produce own food, then they market it to the supermarket next door- don’t even engage any logistic lorry to ferry the products , reduce the carbon food print to the minimum.   The wasted space - top floor of multi-storey car park being fully utilised instead of left empty.

And at the same time , they also make it a social welfare to the less-advantaged people , eg old folks nearby, to be the farmer ,providing them a stable job.

Today they announced to fan out the citiponics to 9 more multi-storey car park buildings, as such , if the growth rate following this scale, maybe in 20 years , Singapore would become one of the vegetable exporters in this region ? sound cool right?
