Nafakhum Falls The largest waterfall in Bangladesh Nafakhum Falls is a natural waterfall located in Bandarban district. Khum in Marma language means waterfall. It is the largest waterfall in Bangladesh. Remakri is a Marma inhabited area in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban district. Thanchi is located at a distance of 69 km from Bandarban. Thanchi Bazar is located on the banks of the river Sangu. The boat has to be slowly ascended towards Remakri along this Sangu river. This is because the river gradually descends from Remakri to Thanchi and for this there are many currents here. After some distance of the river 1-2 feet or even 4/5 feet somewhere down the slope. There are high hills wrapped in green on both sides of the river. Some mountains are so high that their tops are covered with clouds. Surrounded by greenery, one or two tribal dwellings can be seen from time to time. The tin and fence houses on the slopes of the hill are called ‘Khum’ in Marma language which means waterfall. The waterfall is a three-hour walk from Remakri. Distance from Bandarban town to Thanchi upazila is 69 km. It takes 3 hours to travel from Bandarban to Thanchi in a reserve moon car. In the rainy season, it takes two and a half hours to go from Thanchi to Tindu by engine boat. It will take another two and a half hours to go from Tindu to Remakri. There is not enough depth in the river to run an engine boat during the winter. At that time the boat was the only vehicle. There are two ways to reach Nafakhum from Remakri Bazaar. It takes four hours to reach Nafakhum by trekking up and down the hill for an hour and then walking along the bank of Remakri canal for the rest of the way. The Remakri canal has to be crossed three times and the swimming water has to be diverted to Peru. On the other hand, the entire route can be passed along the Remakri canal without climbing the hill again. [2] Housing arrangements To stay the night you have to go to Tindu, Remakri. The Marma's bamboo-wooden house has food arrangements there.
