That sentence must sound confusing to those not familiar with the show. I didn't think the original design represented either characters that well. Pearl has more than two eyes? Blind me has a hard time to see what's going on on the last picture. What did it, saved it?
Oh jeez, this is going to be one Hell of a time explaining this horror, lewl. For starters, Steven Universe is a TV show about a little boy who is half human and half alien. These aliens are portrayed as women, but are in actuality genderless gemstones, and this stone is what projects their physical form for everyone to see. It can sit at any random place on their body, in Pearl's case, her forehead. When their body gets lethally damaged, it disappears, and only their gemstone remains. After a few minutes or hours, it'll reawaken and project a new body, like nothing ever happened. Another prominent thing these aliens can do is fuse together and that way become a whole different, taller, and stronger person/gemstone. This particular comic is a parody of a scene from the movie, where half-alien Steven fuses with his human father, so that their friend Pearl -who had been "factory reset" and believed his father was now her master- could no longer see him and thus not follow or serve him. The point was to make it easier for her to get her memory back; Steven's father was too much of a distraction. For further clarification, pearl gemstones are born servants/butlers, so that's why this was a plot point at all. The whole "saving" bit is a morbid joke, as the fused man didn't save her at all, he flat-out killed her. Pearl's gemstone is lying on the ground, cracked, which means she's dead.
