Two-way Sync 1 Two-way Sync: Google Drive for desktop is designed to sync your files between the cloud (online storage) and your local computer. To ensure files are quickly accessible, even offline, and to ensure changes made locally are updated in the cloud, a copy of the files is stored on your hard drive. 2 The "Google Drive" (or "My Drive") Folder: When you install Google Drive for desktop, it creates a special folder on your computer (often named "Google Drive" or "My Drive" in File Explorer/Finder). All files and folders you choose to sync (or that are synced by default) are downloaded and stored in this folder on your hard drive. 3 Cache (DriveFS): The DriveFS folder we mentioned is the main cache for Google Drive for desktop. It contains temporary copies and metadata of the synced files. Even if you haven't enabled all files to sync all the time (see "Files on Demand" below), DriveFS manages files that you open, preload, or that are needed by the application to run efficiently. This cache can grow considerably over time.
