Election here in the Philippines will be held on May 9, 2022. Some politicians and aspiring politicians has started to file their candidacy for this coming election. So what’s the least we can do as a citizen of this country, and as a voter?

Our government needs to be change. But in order for it to happen, we should elect people who deserves it, and who has the capacity to run our country with just pure intentions. We already suffered a lot from corruption, I don’t have to name which and whose. Our country is in trillion of debts that we can’t even imagine how we ended up that way. We need to change our rubbish system!

But how do we do it? Change begin in us, the citizens. Let’s begin with ourselves. Let’s not just vote this coming election, but let us set these criteria for politicians who wants us to lead our country and build it for the better.

  1. CHECK THEIR PLATFORM. Platform can be deceiving. We all know politicians are good with words. Too good actually that they always makes magical promises that uneducated and easily to be fooled voters use to believe. So what we should do about it? How can we identify and make sure that they platform are true? The answer is DO A RESEARCH. We have massive of sources in the internet that we can access for free, but check for the legit one. Check what are the accomplishments of those politicians during their term. Research what they do to help their people and what other exceptional things they do for the betterment of our nation. Don’t just be blinded by their beautiful platform during campaign period. See it for yourself if those platform are really being implemented upon their term.

  2. CHECK THEIR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not underestimating those people who never had their college degree and the like. What I am trying to say is that, educational background of a politician is something we shouldn’t ignore or just set aside. We all know that there are indeed successful people who used to be a college drop out. But being in politics is a total different story. They are not running a business in here. They are aiming to run and lead a whole nation. So how can they lead if they are not educated enough to do so? Running a country is not some gambling or some businesses that if one didn’t get succeeded, they can just set up another one and try. A country’s government needed a strong foundation. It needed to be established really well in order for its citizens to have a better life inside of it.

  3. DON’T BE BLINDED BY PUBLIC FIGURES OR CELEBRITIES THAT ARE AIMING TO BE OUR NATION’S LEADER. Our government is not just some movie and telenovela that they can act perfectly with! Here in the Philippines, most celebrities are becoming an instant politicians due to their popularity, and because some people are ignorant and blinded enough by their charm and looks that they are rooting and voting for them. First things first, they are just normal peole too. And they are abusing your hunger to see a celebrity in real life just to take a picture with them. That can’t even put a food on your table. So please, just don’t! I know that they are some deserving celebrities out there who truly cares and really uses their platform to help indeed, but choose them wisely, always and always do a background checking for these kind of people.

  4. NEVER EVER SELL YOUR VOTE FOR A LITTLE AMOUNT OF MONEY. Vote buying here in the Philippines are very common during election. My question is that, does the money they give you for buying your vote enough to sustain you and your family for the rest of your lives? The answer is NO. So what’s the sense of selling your vote for a couple of hundreds or a thousand peso? Your childrens future depends on a better government. Selling your vote means selling your childrens future as well. Have an integrity at least. Don’t be blinded by a a little amount of money from our own taxes given by some corrupt politicians. Be responsible enough for you, for your family, and for your childrens future.

THINK TWICE! VOTE WISE!

I am not an expert and I will never be. I was just trying to wake you up and give some little advice, specially those who are easily to get fooled by this filthy politicians. We always complain how bad our government system is, without even knowing that its change begin with us, the citizens. In order for a good leader to succeed in their field, they need a full support from their subordinates. BE THE CHANGE! If we want to see changes in the society that we’re living in, let’s begin with ourselves.

It’s okay to be amazed by their magical platforms and propaganda, or fabulous campaign strategies, but never let these be the reason for you not to see what’s real and what are their true motives. Enough is enough. You may not see it, but our vote has the power to change this nation that we are living in. Remember that.

Same here. I’m trying to educate my friends and family and the people i know as much as possible to vote for someone that’s just not all talk, but can do the walk. If only we can talk to every registered voter in the country, then for sure, changes will really happen.

True but with the kind of system we have in our country there's a little chance only for our voices to be heard. Let's just see how this election goes this year.

It is our moral duty to vote or choose the person which is good for your nation. I do agree they are very good in making promises and also good in breaking those promising. We should make this decision wisely because whole nation and vote decides the person is corrupt or real.

That is true. Although more people tend to easily get fooled by some, it’s i think our responsibility to educate them and lead them and the right path when it comes to voting.

I hope people will learn. When doing research be careful of fake news. As early as now, we can already see how some politicians are acting up so we really have to think hard and choose wisely who to vote.

Couldn’t agree more. That’s why as I’ve said, we need to check for the legit source because a lot can be fake and manipulated in the internet right now.

If this pandemic has not taught the citizenry anything about who the real public servants are, we are in a lot of trouble. Let us be smart this time, if we want to things to change.

Indeed. But I guess ignorance will continue as long as there are people who can easily be fooled by words and money. The country is not hopeless, but the once who’s running it are.
