Let's talk about Satanism for a sec. While it's certainly no secret that I am a Satanist, the concept of Satanism is often misunderstood. I hope you take the time to read this and get a better understanding of who I am and what I stand for. When most people think of Satanists they probably associate it with goat sacrifices, fires, and running around naked in the woods and shit. That really couldn't be further from the truth. There certainly are crazy Satanists, just like there are crazy Christians. There was also the Satanic Panic in the 80s (at least in North America and probably Europe) that ruined a ton of lives over the most menial stuff. Dungeons and Dragons, heavy metal music, cartoons... Pretty much all the fun stuff lol. I'm a member of The Satanic Temple (TST). We are a non-theistic group. We don't actually believe in the devil, or god; heaven or hell. We use the imagery because a lot of it is pretty badass and the concept of Satan really appeals to who we are - outcasts that strive to push social norms by using critical thinking and always striving to learn more. TST is still a fairly new religion, it was formed (I think) in the late '00s by Lucien Greaves and Malcolm Jerry. The religion is especially present in the USA with some groups forming in Canada in more recent years. We also have a few groups in some European countries (sorry, can't remember which off the top of my head). We follow 7 (for now) tenets that focus on things like acceptance, critical thinking, and bodily autonomy. We also do what we can to celebrate ourselves and each other for our accomplishments and try to recognize our failures. I've attached a pic to this post of the 7 tenets. Another really popular group is the Church of Satan (CoS) which was started by Anton LeVay in I think the 70s? It's the one that really got the Christians in a bunch and triggered the satanic panic. Like me and my fellow TST members, they are also non-theistic. They have a few more tenets than us, and are kinda dated. I personally believe that our tenets are much more positive and open-minded, but that's my opinion there. We're all basically just atheism+. There are some more dangerous groups out there. Like the Order of 9 Angles (O9A). I stay away from that mess. I'd love to talk more - I've only been an official member of TST since November, but it's been an overall positive experience for me.
