Formed in Miami Florida, Cavity was the band that introduced me to Sludge metal. Sludge is all about downtuned and heavily distorted guitars, fairly basic rhythms and melodies, and raw sound. My foray into this genre was a bit strange.,, There's a local university here that runs their own radio station, and the shows change every few hours. While they have a set schedule, it the variety between shows is very wild. Sometimes they'd play electronica, followed by somebody reading poetry, followed by heavy metal and stuff like Cavity. At some times the shows weren't even in English. I always wondered what the station was about - finally tracked it down around 2014 and it all fell into place lol. In any case, I happened on the station one night in the early 2000s and couldn't get enough of the raw sound I was hearing. I threw a cassette in the radio and just let it record all that I could. The song that I most enjoyed from the tape was called Laid Insignificant (off the album with the same name: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAM4v7ugEYE). But there was only one real hint I had to work on - the radio host mentioning "That was Cavity, Fuck Diablo" I still had a lot to sort out, but I knew the band name was likely either "Cavity" or "Fuck Diablo" (which it turns out is one of their other albums). This must have been around 2002? It wasn't until closer to 2004 and LOTS of searching that I started to break ground. I found the band, and slowly started finding info on them and putting their music and history into place. These days, it's much easier to find details on them... thankfully.
