Hahaha - what a sign of a generation gap. My kids came down and asked me what "that ear-piercing noise" was. It was the CRT TV I had turned on. I guess I'm getting old now because I barely hear it. But I don't remember it being a big issue when I was their age. I used to be able to walk the halls in my elementary school and find ones that had TV's on just by following the sound. My kids grew up with flat screen LCD's, and it's only been recently that I've gone back to my old school games on a real CRT. 😂
