Note: I feel a bit like a shill posting a link to a Kickstarter - I'm not suggesting anybody go out of their way to support the project just because of my post. The movie itself is public domain, so you can watch it... but you won't get the version with her music on it - which is really the whole point of this one. Alia Synestheisa - a local (to me) Toronto artist - has completed her own rendition of a fully scored soundtrack for the 1922 movie Haxan. She's doing the entire thing by herself - all the instruments, vocals, recording, editing, mastering, etc. have all been done by her. If anybody's into old, silent films I'd say this one's worth checking out. The movie itself is public domain as I said before - so if you just want to see the movie it's not hard to find. It's a silent horror film about the witch hunts and how they could have all stemmed from people not properly understanding mental illnesses, and how the misunderstanding could have triggered mass hysteria. The only major difference with this version is the soundtrack that Alia has created. The kickstarter includes a Digital Download only tier ($15 CAD) and a DVD+Digital Download tier ($30 CAD) if anybody's interested. There's also a trailer on the Kickstarter page for the project. Jump to 1:30 of the trailer if you want to skip right to the demo of what she's hoping to release. She gave a sneak peak of her project back on April 30th on a Twitch stream and it was really awesome - I'm looking forward to seeing how the final revision of the soundtrack works out. The restored version of the video that she's using is also incredibly clear considering the movie is almost 100 years old. Even if you're not interested in the KS, I'd say check out the demo reel for the video.
