When I changed career after being in the OT side for 2 years, I knew that my OT skills will inevitably be obsolete. The industrial technical things move too quickly that I knew I would not be able to keep up if that is not my line of work anymore. But these days, since I am working closely with OT providers, I am feeling a bit out of it. I miss being on that side of things instead of being in the IT/OT integration. I miss the late night troubleshooting. I miss the sense of accomplishment when my PLC program work as intended. I miss seeing the SCADA graphics I made in different workstations. I missed it all. But the current work setup I have works better for me. Mostly WFH, no office drama, no emergency site activities. I'm slowly coming to terms with my decision but some days I think about the engineer I could have been if I pushed through the OT road. It's a bittersweet feeling realizing that there is currently no perfect choice for me in my career path.
