Hooking my Way
Being stuck at home the past year has given me much free time than I know what to do with. Lazing about the whole day gets tiring after a while. So, I instead tried to find a new hobby- something that I can call mine.
I had extra yarns for projects during the last year of high school that I no longer have any use for. So I decided that maybe I could try knitting! I don't have knitting needles but I figured that pencils, sticks or chopsticks will do until I get one. I used a pencil for the majority of my learning in knitting and until now, I still have not bought any needles. It is because I found something more to try and just a tad bit cheaper on the materials required.
If you guess, crochet is the next thing I tried then you are absolutely correct. I bought crochet hooks online and when I received them, I was the happiest girl in the world. I immediately practiced basic stitches and trying to get the tension right. I did only for a week because I am impatient and I wanted to do some "cool" projects.
I was able to do a granny square that is not a perfect as it could have been had I waited and persevered through the basics. However, I am still incredibly proud of it as I made it. The sides of the granny square I made are lopsided that it not a perfect square. I had also encountered many difficulties like understanding the pattern but in the end, I manage to do it.
Today, I am still doing small crochet projects because I was not able to stock up on yarns. I did many crochet scrunchies, washable make up remover, dishcloths, and headbands. The project that I am most proud of is making a beanie for our puppy, Moshi. I used a multi-colored milk cotton yarn that I ordered online during the 5.5 sale. I managed to do it in about an hour and I was so happy with the results.
As you can see, Moshi looks so pretty as she wears the "outfit" I made for her. After finishing this project, I was so pumped to do more cute outfits for her but that would have to wait in the future. Lack of yarns is really the only thing that stops me from going all out on practicing crochet.
This is only the beginning of my crochet journey. I know that I will be able to create more when I finally stock up on materials. Sometimes, I would even wonder if this how it feels to finally found your spark.
