The markhor is the national animal of Pakistan, where it is also known as the screw horn or "screw-horned goat",[3] mārkhor (مارخور) in Pashto and mārkhor (مارخور) in Urdu from Classical Persian.[4] According to locals, Mar means "dead" and Khor means "eat", as this goat is said to eat carrion and dead animals, including snakes and wolves that it has killed in self defence
