Where is your first love?

Do you still remember the lady/guy that you promised to always love? not just a lady or guy but the first we ever said "I love you" to. No, not your mum or dad or sister. I'm talking about your former colleague, neighbors, or the one you meet on the way. Where is she or he?

Being teenagers without having much responsibility gives us a whole lot of freedom to explore our thoughts. However, this stage is a very important developmental stage where the next part of our lives will take shape. One of those features about this stage of taking crucial decisions. Some we may call miss and some we succeed. But altogether teenagers need the advice of more experienced individuals to help them make proper decisions.

It brings butterflies to the stomach each time that handsome guy in class or school expresses his love for a beautiful girl in school. And for the guy, he seems to take a notch higher above his peers as they look at him in maybe more different ways. They call him bad boy, real guy, and the soft ones call him, lover boy. For the girl, she becomes the envy of other girls like her who wishes to have that hot guy.

At some point, the feeling grows that promises that may never be fulfilled are made. You will hear words like "I'll lay my life for you", "I will die for you" or I can not live without you. After all these, and as advancement comes in life with other responsibilities, they look back to say well and realized that what they were doing was not exactly important even though they may still respect each other.

Life changes and people change too. While eventually, we get to meet that very first love, after all, we may have been through. Some of them may finally keep true to their promise and they get to open a new chapter of love in their lives. While others may never get to meet again and go on to have another chapter of love lives with other partners.

They said the first love is always the real love that we had and I have for some time now try to understand what that means. And this is what I came up with. As teenagers as we are we get to love the opposite genuinely, not for what they have as it had to do with the material stuff, but sometimes simple. For looks, brilliance, smartness, or strength. More like how our ancestors choose their partners. This is what makes the first love best in my opinion. As we grow older love becomes more transactional, which erodes the genuine sweetness of the first love.

It is even more beautiful if the person we get to settle down with for the rest of our lives happens to be the very first love that we are used to. This kind of relationship often lasts longer as fondness, genuineness, and love are real. Everyone benefits from such a relationship in the latter days. Their children are happier and loved as the couple will not always be fighting and they deal with the issues like there always have in the most peaceful and friendly ways or even better than what it used to be due to maturity. Parents won't see any need to intervene in an issue with them as they are friends and would get through it all. It gives parents peace of mind.

For me, each time first love is talked about I always thinks of best of friends. Yes, first love is best friends. Maybe not all but most are best of friends. I know after reading this article most of you wouldn't want to imagine yourselves ending up with the first love of your life probably due to some circumstances best known to you. Whatever the case may be, we must always respect ourselves at all times. It doesn't matter what cause of the fight we had is but going about to talk bad about them is bad enough.
