Let's talk about leafy veggy. ***Saluyot*** - A leafy vegetable from the plant who has a scientific name Corchorus. It is called Nalta Jute in English because it is belong to the jute family of plants.
Saluyot is one of the nutritious vegetables in the world. This vegetable is safe when eaten by diabetic, people who has heart problem and people who has high cholesterol. It contains a lot of vitamins such as Vitamin A, C, E, K, Riboflavin or vitamin B2, Niacin or B3, Panthotenic acid or B5, Pyridoxine or B6, Folate or B9, calcium, iron, copper, potassium and more. ***The importance of these vitamins that can be found on Saluyot to our body:*** 1. ***Vitamin K*** is a vitamins that help the blood clot to prevent excessive bleeding. 2. ***Vitamin A*** and beta carotene are for our eyes, skin and it hels to repair the cells in our body like healing of wounds. 3. ***Vitamin B6*** or Pyridoxine help our eyes to avoid different illness like age related macular degeneration. 4. ***Vitamin C*** or ascorbic acid has a great help with our immune system and also in our skin. It is a great help to prevent us from cough and cold that can lead to pneumonia or lung infection. 5. ***Calcium*** is need to strengthen our bones, teeth and gums. 6. ***Vitamin E*** is for strong immunity , hair and eyes. 7. ***Iron*** needs for healthy red blood cells. ***Here are some Saluyot recipe you can prepare if you love too.*** ***Dinendeng*** is an Ilocano dish and its just simply boiling of vegetables in a broth seasoned with fish sauce. You can also add grilled fish or fried fish to make it more tasty. This is one of my favorite dish of my father , he added some Saluyot, Alugbati, Malunggay and other vegetables on his dish.
***Sauted Saluyot -*** Sauted Saluyot with onion and garlic and add some fish flakes or dried shrimp. You can also put some vinegar on it for a sour flavor or tamarind mix.
These recipes were common on Ilocanos. I dont know if some Filipino are eating this kind of leafy vegetables ๐ But me, I love it ๐ Mommy Yen
