I Was Just a Kid. But I Fought for a Cat Like She Was My Family. I never had pets growing up. Not because I didn’t want one — but because I couldn’t. My parents didn’t give me money. Whatever I needed, they brought it themselves. There was no extra, no choices — and certainly no space for stray animals. But one day… everything changed. I was feeding a street cat outside our house when suddenly, a little kitten appeared. Tiny. Quiet. Eyes wide and innocent. She looked lost. Hungry. Afraid. I had never touched a cat in my life. I used to be scared of animals — especially cats and dogs. But she looked straight at me with a kind of trust that melted every fear. Without thinking, I let her eat. She ate gently, then ran into our house when she heard footsteps. Like she already knew she belonged there. That was the beginning. She was so small, so soft, so baby-like — I gave her the name Mini. And that name stuck in my heart. She started exploring our home slowly, like it was a magical adventure. And I started loving her, even more slowly — and deeply. She was the first soul I ever truly cared for on my own. But It Wasn’t Easy My parents weren’t happy. They didn’t want pets. They told me we couldn’t afford her, that she had to go. But I cried. I begged. I promised I’d handle everything — even though I had nothing. No money. No support. Just whatever small bites of fish or meat I could give her from my own plate. No proper food. No vet. No help. But I gave her all my love. And she stayed. One Day… Mini Went Missing She had become part of our family. Even if she loved to sit near the door, and even if her heart sometimes wandered outside… She always came back. Until one day… she didn’t. I searched the streets. The rooftops. The neighbors’ yards. Everywhere. Mini was gone. One week passed. Then two. Then four. Almost a month later — she returned. And Then She Became a Mother I was so happy to see her again. For the next one and a half months, she stayed with me again — just like before. My Mini. My little family. Then, one quiet day… she gave birth. Two tiny kittens. Eyes closed. Paws like cotton. They looked just like her. I was shocked. My parents were angry. They said to throw the kittens out. That they would become a burden. That we couldn’t keep them. But how could I? I cried again. Fought again. And somehow — I kept them. What I Didn’t Know Back Then… I didn’t know cats needed to be spayed. No one ever told me that if we don’t neuter them, they’ll keep running, keep having babies, keep disappearing. Now I know. But still… I can’t afford it. Even now, I feed them with whatever I have. Sometimes I eat less so they can eat more. But I will never give up. Because this was never just about Mini. My Dream? Not to be rich. Not to have a house full of cats. Just this: That every cat in the world gets at least one person who sees them. Feeds them. Loves them. And one day, insha’Allah, I will make sure of it. Until then — I’ll keep going. For Mini. For her babies. For every stray soul with no voice of their own. 🐾 Thank you for reading — it means more than you know. 🤍
