Litmus Test for a Friend
People will tell you to “lighten up” And get pissed off when you finally do People will tell you “Hey! Look at this!” And get real mad at you seeing through People will say you should always speak up But complain when it crosses their fragile lines People just don’t know what to do But try to hide this thought from their minds People love to caw and coo Pretend to be cocksure gods of this world They’ll say they’d take a bullet for you But can’t even say no to taking your girl They pretend to cheer you on but always Secretly hope you fail and fall There are very few, if any, around That honestly want happiness for all And in one man, a saint and a scoundrel And some of us one or the other, moreso But the final litmus test for a friend Is someone who cares and makes efforts to grow
