So this happened many years ago. During my 100 level in school. I had a financial issue. I could call it an emergency one, I had called my parents' number they were both switched off, so I was stranded. So I decided to confide to an older friend of mine who worked at Govt. House at the time and was also a part-time student. He was unreachable on phone so I went to his house, fortunately, he was around. So I told him that I needed his help to sort myself out in school. "Please, I am stranded just find me 3k let me sort something urgent in school. As soon as my parents sort me out I will give you back. Their numbers are unavailable." I went on my knees and was begging him, but he said. "Eeyaa I am so sorry I wish I can help you but I don't have anything on me. They have not even paid us salary. I don't have money with me just N200." I asked him to please check, he swore he didn't have money. We were still on the matter, one girl he just met on Facebook called him and told him that she was just passing his street with her friend she thought to call to check if he was around. He shouted that yes he was around, in fact, they should come and say hello to him. A few minutes later, the lady came with her friend. After introducing me to them he said to them. "Ahh what do you people care to take?" Meanwhile, I had been in his house for nearly two hours he never asked me what I care to take, I didn't even bother to think about it because I had a pressing issue on ground. The girls said they want juice, and he rushed down the street and bought juice for them, he never asked me what I wanted nor did he buy anything for me. When he came back he abandoned me totally and was talking with the girls. When they were leaving he asked the girls for their account details, someone who told me he had no money on him except N200. To my surprise, he transferred 20k each to those girls. They saw the alert and shouted. "Wow. You sent us 20k each. Wow. You are such a darling. Thank you, dear." Meanwhile, he just met them less than a week and he had been asking one of them out, but she refused. I felt really terrible for myself. Imagine me who don't know how to ask for help, how I felt that day. I confronted him and said. "I thought you said you don't have money just N200 but right before me you transferred 40k to these girls, while I am here asking you to borrow me just 3k for my course project, you said you don't have." All he could say was. "Is it your money? Abeg. You go give me wetin those girls go give me? Abeg leave me na my money, no be you go tell me how I go take spend my money." I left his house shattered and heartbroken. I cut this guy off. Just a couple of months ago, life happened to him, this guy came to my house here in Lagos begging me for help. Remember, ever since that day I never spoke with him, he didn't bother reaching out. He is married now and he had a real financial issue. He confided in me begging me for him, no matter how little. I smiled and reminded him of what he did to me that day. He remembered and started apologizing, crying. "Your fellow guy who was struggling asked you for help, and you said you don't have, instead you carry your money give girls. Why don't you meet those girls now and ask them for help?" He was speechless, just looking at me. I continued. "I took you as an elder brother then, but look at the way you treated me, you never asked me how I got that 3k to sort myself in school that year. See life is funny, the greatest investment you can make as a human being is to invest in a human being like you who needs that investment. I won't pay you back with your coins." I helped him the best way I could, he knew that if he had treated me nicely, I would have helped him way more than I helped him at that time. Do not neglect anyone in life, the person you looked down upon today could be your savior or children's savior tomorrow. Do not be the reason why someone shed tears at night, because this life get as e be. . Lagos .
