Rosary Guide
1. **Make the Sign of the Cross and say the "Apostles' Creed."** ***Apostles Creed*** *I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord, ... He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.* 2. **Say the "Our Father."** **Our Father** in heaven, hallowed *be* ***your*** *name.* ***Your*** *kingdom come,****your*** *will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day* ***our*** *daily bread, and forgive us****our*** *debts, as we also have forgiven* ***our****debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.'* 3. **Say three "Hail Mary’s."** ***Hail Mary****, Full of Grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.* ***Holy Mary****, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of death. Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the* ***Holy****Spirit.* 4. **Say the "Glory be to the Father."** ***Glory be to the Father****, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.* 5. **Announce the First Mystery; then say the "Our Father."** ***When we pray the So****rrowful* ***Mysteries****, the****first*** *decade corresponds to the Agony of Christ in the Garden, the second, to Scourging of Christ, the third, to the Crowning with Thorns, the fourth, to the Carrying of the Cross, and the fifth, to the Crucifixion and Death of Our Lord.* ***Our Father*** *in heaven, hallowed be* ***your*** *name.* ***Your*** *kingdom come,****your*** *will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.'* 6. **Say ten "Hail Mary’s," while meditating on the Mystery.** ( The ten **Hail Marys** are part of the evolution of the rosary. It was custom in the monastic tradition of the Middle Ages to **say** frequently the Psalter, i.e. 150 psalms of the Old Testament. Lay members of the order said in place of the psalms the Our Father (Pater). ***Hail Mary****, Full of Grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.* ***Holy Mary****, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of death.* 7. **Say the "Glory be to the Father."** ***Glory be to the Father****, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.* 8. **Then after each decade say the following prayer requested by the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima:** “*O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who have most need of your mercy."* 9. Announce the Second Mystery; then s**ay the "Our Father." Repeat 6,7 and 8 and continue with Third, Fourth and Fifth Mysteries in the same mann**er. The **Second Mystery**: -- state the**Second Mystery**, -- optional: state the prayer intention for this **mystery**. -- at the individual bead -- say one Our Father. -- at each of the ten consecutive beads -- say one Hail Mary. After the Rosary: **HAIL, HOLY QUEEN,** Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Let us pray. O GOD, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ Our Lord.
