When starting a new drawing. The first thing i love to set is the "Layers" This way it helps to differentiate the different parts of the building. The layers for walls will be different from that of windows and doors etc. Another thing of note is the Line weight. So many people forget to set this- for the walls,it's advisable to pick a thick lineweight to help when printing out. Failure to set the line weight makes every part of the building look the same after printing in black and white. Remember to set your UNITS and LIMITS before commencing. This helps in having control over the working space. The picture attached is the sample from autoCad 2018.
