If the Foundation is bad , whatsoever you are laying above on it, be it the block wall, roof and other superstructure is a waste of time. A weak Foundation can't take an heavy load. What brought about these words this afternoon? I was teaching our year 1 students Taking off of substructure (strip foundation) and some year 2 and year 3 students joined. It was so painful to discover that most of the year 2 and year 3 students don't understand it before. What baffles me the most is how have they been coping? Without a good knowledge of the substructure, every other thing will look like magic to one , how did they survive it? How come they are in year 2&3 and they don't understand a year 1 course? I realised the problem is in the foundation, the foundation laid down for them in year 1 wasn't solid enough, or should I say the foundation they laid for themselves wasn't strong enough, in following levels they try to patch things up, but you can't cover up the blushes of a weak foundation, when it finally can't withstand the load, it collapses.
