Is online lecture really an improvement or a joke? For weeks now students across various institutions in Nigeria has been making their agitation towards the online lecture adopted by their schools known. People go to the extent of tagging their school pages across Twitter and Facebook, but all these fell on deaf ears. Then it struck me, why can't Nigeria practice online class when other countries are? Or are our students lazy? Why this much complaints? However after my research I discovered that the students truly have a point, and they have been having a bad experience in disguise of an online lectures. First, the issue of Data comes into play,how do they(students) get data for the numerous Zoom classes and YouTube videos, the network providers across the country still sell data plans at ridiculous amount and charge at an high rate. Most students quit their jobs to concentrate on this online lecture, and spend a lot of money on getting data. In 2021 we shouldn't be complaining of this in Nigeria, but I'm sorry to burst you bubble we are, what is it that we are complaining about? It's the Tendency of school websites to hang when there's too many people using it simultaneously, the students complained bitterly, some in tears ,some in resignation about how writing test for them has been an herculean task, not before they didn't read but because of the school website,- it logs them out at will and hangs due to bad network (that's a topic for another day). The lecturers are not left behind , according to a student "it seems the lecturers are venting the anger of the Federal Government not meeting their needs last year on us, they drop multiple cumbersome materials, give out assignments and drop unreasonable deadlines". It's no news to one of how funny Nigerian lecturers can be, they keep on reminding the students of how lucky they are to have the internet at their beckon call, unlike their time, so it seems finally they've seen a perfect opportunity, to pay the student for being lucky. Funny? Yes that's just how it looks , you will hear things like "go to google now" when students ask them how are they to go about their assignments. In conclusion I pray something is done to these because so many students are depressed and sad. Hopefully schools will resume physically soon and the students can go back to having their sanity. #NigeriaUniversities
