A resident of Palawan was alarmed after the fish he was supposed to buy contained trash in its belly after it was sliced open. Uploader Mary Vanessa Guzman-Tan narrated her father’s experience in a Facebook post on May 22, 2021. According to Mary, her father was a frequent buyer at a fish stall in Barangay Jacana, Puerto Princesa City. "He decided to buy a kilo or two of Dorado. Since the fish was huge, the vendor sliced it open and as they revealed the insides of the fish, they were surprised to see trash," she wrote in the caption. The stomach of the fish contained candy wrappers, bottle caps of softdrinks, a yellow plastic spoon and salonpas. It was supposedly part of the fresh catch from the waters of Palawan. Mary said that her father opted not to buy fish that day. After the incident, Mary said she posted the photo on social media to raise awareness on water pollution in the Philippines. "Dahil sa kadamangan ng tao, pati lamang dagat nadadamay. This only means that our ocean is being flooded with trash," she wrote.
